Prediction Comments

Predictions: 8 of 12 Winners, 2 Perfect, 490 Points   |   Tied for 373rd

Magny vs. Ponzinibbio
Santiago Ponzinibbio, TKO, R3
if magny can keep his range, he could chip away and find his moments, but i think ponzi can make him shell up with his power. magny is durable though and should be able to survive the early blitz and drag it to later rounds, the question is if he can get ponzi tired before then.

Lamas vs. Elkins
Ricardo Lamas, DEC
initially i kinda liked elkins at +175, but i think i'm flipping my pick. yes, lamas seems to be hitting that twilight period of his career while elkins is still hitting his stride, but he's been effective against opponents that have straight forward gameplans and elkins is one of those. i think lamas has the wrestling to avoid getting smothered.

Rountree vs. Walker
Khalil Rountree, TKO, R1
so presumably someone is going to bed early here. i'm gonna run with khalil just out of familiarity and his freak power.

Ferreira vs. Heinisch
Cezar Ferreira, DEC
mutante has done a good job in recent years of protecting his chin and his ground game has been surprisingly effective as well. unless heinisch smothers from top control or lands the perfect shot to put him away, i think he's gonna be eating a lot of kicks from the outside.

Vera vs. Cannetti
Marlon Vera, SUB, R2
cannetti and his nipple tattoo always screw up my picks, but with all 3 career losses coming by sub, i have to think that vera has the advantage.

Botelho vs. Calvillo
Poliana Botelho, DEC
calvillo probably shoots early and often, it's a question of how well botelho defends those attempts and if she can make her pay in the process. she's at nova uniao so i have to expect that she can defend wrestling pretty well.

Prazeres vs. Fabiński
Michel Prazeres, DEC
i like prazeres, he's always a go-to pick, but it'd be silly to write off fabinski just because he's a one-trick pony. i do think that michel could have the standup advantage so i'll guess that it's more of a clinch fight than a wrestling match and if bartosz can't get the fight down, probably means he won't win.

Pantoja vs. Sasaki
Alexandre Pantoja, DEC
it'll be fun to see what sasaki looks like since moving stateside (mizuki looked pretty good under longo), but the story of this matchup seems to be that all of ulka's ufc wins have come by sub and that it's an unlikely outcome against pantoja. on top of that, he's been subbed himself in 3/4 ufc losses so i don't like his chances despite my team bias.

Arnett vs. Bandenay
Austin Arnett, SUB, R2
i really wanna pick bandenay, but his sub losses stand out to me, partially because it seems to be a weakness, but also because some of the guys that subbed him were straight up journeymen. so while i don't trust arnett at all, i do think this is winnable.

Aldana vs. Staropoli
Laureano Staropoli, TKO, R2
weird fight, but i guess it makes sense for this card. staropoli has been fighting scrubs at best, but aldana had been doing the same thing before taking a 5 year break only to get ko'd in singapore. it's clearly a pickem, but i'll guess aldana gets caught again.

Powell vs. Pinedo
Devin Powell, DEC
i'll go with the underdog here. pinedo is a finisher so it's possible he lands big and makes it quick, but devin powell is super durable and could gain control of the fight as it goes on. pinedo looks like the better fighter, but his competition has been mediocre, whereas powell had already fought a couple decent guys.

Narimani vs. dos Santos
Nad Narimani, DEC
anderson is a late replacement, right? i think that coupled with his propensity to finish goes one of two ways. either he storms narimani early and easy or he plays a more conservative game and allows nad to pick his shots and pick up rounds.

Two ufc events in a row I got smoked.  I gotta turn it around tonight.
I'm all in on ponz. If magney doesn't constantly try and succeed to take this fight to the ground i think ponz gets an early ko.
I also think elkins does exactly that and grinds out a UD against lamas.
Calvillo missed weight at 118 I got botelho but oddly if calvillo brings it to the ground i think the same thing applies. And she could get a ud also. But she likes to brawl and i know theres gonna b a ko in that one for sure just like rountree ko in 1. For. not against.

Early in the round it looked like Dos Santos's head was a magnet for Naramani's fists but as the round went on Dos Santos started finding his range and Naramani started missing.

That fight was probably harder than Niramani anticipated. Not that he didn't clearly win but he took a lot of punishment

Pinedo will probably get that first round. Powell tried being aggressive but Pinedo was landing more effectively.

Powell can't just lay there bicycling his legs and expect to win the round. Especially when Pinedo ends with a flurry like that.
