As we all are well aware of, Georges St. Pierre has won nearly all of his title defenses by decision.  In an appearance on Inside MMA, Condit explained how he thinks if he lets the fight go to a decision, he would probably lose.  The thing is, Condit has only went to a 3 round decision once in his 30+ fight career and has gone on to finish a fight in the 4th round in the WEC.  So can he finish St. Pierre in 25 minutes of fighting?  It's hard to tell how good St. Pierre's gameplan will be for this one, as neither fighter is being prepared for this fight by Greg Jackson.

What do you guys think about what Condit said, or how good GSP will look without Jackson in his corner?

GSP will be fine without Jackson.  He hardly sees Jackson for most of his real training anyway.  Jackson just helps with game-plans, and works the corner.  The lack of Jackson will affect Condit more, since Jackson is usually much more involved with Condit's day to day.

As far as Condit having to finish this fight to win, I totally agree.  Most likely if Condit does win, it will happen suddenly.  He won't be able able to win rounds against GSP.  If he is able to get something going against GSP, it will probably lead to a finish.  If not, then I fully expect GSP to win 50-45.

But GSP is a ROBOT! He can't perform his regularly scheduled tasks unless his operator pegs them into his computer. You seen the Shields fight. I think Condit will be just fine, he is, afterall, the Natural Born Killer.

But now that I think about it, maybe this is what GSP needs to be the fighter everyone wants him to be. He needs to be his own fighter in the Octagon, not Jackson's.

I get goosebumps thinking about it, because Carlos Condit knows how to finish

I would love to see Condit not only beat GSP, but finish him as well. The problem is that all of Condit's weaknesses play right into GSP's greatest strengths. Condit has all the potential and tools to beat GSP, but he has to make sure the fight stays on the feet, and he has to press GSP on the feet relentlessly. If he doesn't, then I see GSP taking Condit down at will and earning himself another 5 round decision.

Carlos Condit has the tools to beat GSP, but so did others.  Having the tools and ability is not enough.  Condit needs to find a way to bring them to bear under pressure against someone who in obsessed with training all his already-deep skill-set.

Condit needs to find something to keep the fight different.  Like Anderson Silva putting his foot in Belfort's face.  Or a Jon Jones spinning back-elbow.  He needs to be creative to keep GSP off him.  If he fails to find anything new, he will be taken down and dominated.  Once Condit is on the bottom, he will be in big, big trouble.  GSP will have the strength and size to hold him down and knows how to bring big knees to bear.

Condit has the tools but that won't be enough.

I think Condit has the potential to win this fight, but not the experience. He may have been a champion before, but the WEC spotlight was not nearly as intense as the UFC spotlight. Condit has the tools, but I can see him folding under the pressure and letting GSP dominate him to yet another decision win.

I think many of GSP's opponents have been playing it safe, too.  Condit will fight to finish, that's his style.  This fight probably won't go 5 rounds, Condit will either finish Georges, or get finished trying.  I think St. Pierre by TKO.

I agree with you jodybanman.  We all complain that guys like GSP doesn't finish fights; however it's difficult when the other fighter does nothing to pressure the champ.  Let's be realistic...before Silva KO'd Belfort with that front kick the MMA world was questioning him as the greatest ever because he had a few luckluster bouts.

What happened when Chael took it to him and in the final seconds of the 5th round after getting his ass handed to him he slipped in the sub.  He was forced to fight and forced to do something dramatic in order to win the fight.  The end result?  Best P4P in he world again.

I think this fight will truly define GSP if Condit actually takes it to him because I don't think we have seen the best of GSP yet and we may in fact see it on the 29th.

Woah, hold up!

Okami hardly engaged = TKO

Vitor was cautious on the feet = KO

Leites wasn't doing a whole lot = Decision

Maia didn't engage = Decision

But any GSP fight? GSP is in control. He is getting the TD's and has the dominant positions, and can't finish. You don't need your opponent to pressure you when your in top position, you just get TO WORK! And the Shields/Kos fights? Again, more control. He had the fights where he wanted them, he had his opponents hurt/rocked at times, still nothing!

That fight would make more since as a catchweight,

especially since Chael Sonnen will be the MW champion by the time they would fight...
