I think Suarez could be an interesting matchup for Joanna eventually but unfortunately she's been stalled due to being out injured for a year.

Joanna has really put some serious distance between herself and the rest of her division. Very similar to DJ. Good for Joanna though. She's on another huge card.

@mback4307, I agree with you, her technique, speed and grappling defense are all unparalleled in this division and it doesn't look like that's changing any time soon. The problem I'm having with her though is she's having a hard time finishing fights. Now, granted, this is women at 115lbs, so not many KO's will happen, but she is tooling these girls in there (except Claudia) but unable to pull the trigger or have that killer instinct to finish. It's reminiscent to Aldo coming to the UFC and being very similar to Joanna, destroying people on the lower level then at the highest peak just winning dominate decisions over them. I'm hoping she breaks the mold and start finishing, especially in those later rounds when she's still fairly fresh. The Jessica Penne fight is probably my favorite fight of hers and for this reason, she beat her down and finished late.

It also could be that her competition is improving as well. If you look at long reining champions (gsp comes to mind), their finishes seem to decrease. Not always though. But Joanna has been fighting the best the UFC has to offer since her 1st fight with Claudia.

@mbach4307, Yeah I agree, her last few fights have been tough ones. But I think she probably should've finished Andrade, it was such a shut out at 5-0, she just never pulled the trigger. The Karolina fight was dominate for JJ winning 4-1 but no strong attempt to finish. Joanna's playing it safe, and maybe that's the smarter way to go. Rose is aggressive and could cause problems.

It is clearly a card aimed at getting the casual dollar. The problem is that Joanna has pretty much cleaned house at 115. Although, with the creation of 125, I wouldn't be surprised if she vacates the 115 belt to go up a division if she keeps beating every title challenger the UFC throws at her.

Rose is the best option for a contender since Joanna has beat most the other options. Of the top 6 contenders three have lost to Joana and the other two lost to Rose and the last remaining is Rose herself.

i have zero interest in watching title fights where the person comes off losses or only has 1 win , tecia , felice even that noob calvillo deserve it more to me , rose makes boys **** in their pants its the only reason shes getting it .

Not really. Rose is only there by default, because Joanna is the best women's fighter in the world and has been able to breeze through every opponent not named Claudia Gadelha (who I hope gets another shot and doesn't get the Benavidez treatment). If Calvillo or Herrig had a chance to get a win over a top 10 figher, I agree with Gunn and say that they should get the title shot more than Rose. One win doesn't/shouldn't merit a title shot.

Rose beat Tecia two fights ago so Rose is certainly more deserving than her. I'm not so convinced about Calvillo and wasn't impressed with her last fight. Rose has three top 10 wins in her last four fights which is probably why she is getting the shot, not because of her physical appearance. You should be less concerned with numbers and more concerned with what's behind those numbers.

There's nothing behind the numbers. Joanna fighting just to fight. Like Mighty Mouse. Nobody deserves to fight Mighty Mouse..but he wants to fight so they give bums like Borg a shot.
Namajunas definitely doesn't deserve a title-shot..but there's nobody else and Joanna wants to fight...

That was almost a year and a half ago and Rose lost to Kowalkiewicz in a split after that fight (a fight in which I, and many others on this forum, thought it should not have even been a split). If Namajunas can't find a way to win the big fights against one of the top 3 of the division, how is she going to fare any better against Joanna? Because she choked out Waterson? I like Waterson and I think she has talent, but she hasn't beaten many names and she is a bit undersized for 115 and more suited for Atomweight.

The champ can't just sit on the shelf. They need to make a living. It's not fair to punish the champ because they are too good or that much better than their competiton. Like I said Rose is the best option at the moment just like Borg is the best option for DJ at the moment. Whenever their is a dominant champ matches like that happen. It's why Anderson fought Cote and Lietes and why GSP fought Hardy or has to fight Nick Diaz coming off a loss to Carlos Condit. Because sometimes the best option isn't all that great.

Realistically it should take no less than a 5-fight winning streak to earn a title-shot..but when the division only has 5 fighters....not much you can do.
Especially when you're in the hole by about 4 billion dollars.

@BigJ Joanna just fought...she's not being punished. And Champs need to know that your title-reign will be judged based on the quality of wins..not how many.
Hints why people don't respect Mighty Mouse. Beating undeserved contender after contender...big whoop. Hints why his PPV numbers are worse than every other champ. Nobody cares that you're beating bums & dudes with 2 wins in a row..
These girls getting title-shots with 2-1, 1-1 records in their last couple fights is a joke.

They could of made Joanna sit on the shelf and fed rose a few cans to build her record so she is just not coming off one win but why do that? It's padding for padding sake. Like I said given the divisions current state and Joanna's past fight history Rose is the best option.
