This is the most exciting thing to happen in the heavier weight classes in a while. Very pumped for him to fight! He's been out for a couple years now, so hopefully in that time he's been training exclusively MMA. With the right training, he could go very far in this sport!

Great to see a kickboxer of Gokhan Saki's level come into MMA. I wish he signed with RIZIN, as he would have probably gotten the Cro Cop treatment. But still, I hope to see more kickboxers like him joining in MMA.

This is ******* awesome, if anything he'll KO a few scrubs in violent fashion and get grapple****** a few times. Or he gets that TDD down to a T and makes it far in the division. I assume he'll be at 205, much needed in that division. Always been a huge fan of Gokhan but I agree RIZIN would've been better for him, with lesser competition, bigger pay but I respect the **** out of him for this. Now it's time for Spong and Verhoeven to go into MMA more often.

@MikeyG
Spong isn't going back into MMA. He is scared ****less to throw kicks after he broke his leg against Saki at that Glory Card in Istanbul and has since retired from Kickboxing and has gone all in on a boxing career.
Verhoeven, IMO, has a chance to make a good run in the UFC, but should go to RIZIN to sharpen his game and add name value to that promotion, along with the likes of Saulo Calavari and Braddock Silva.

Is this real life?Why would UFC make such a cool signing?What camp is he at?I'm assuming he's staying at Mike's gym,I guess that's probably a decent camp for mma too.Rather see like an ATT level camp or something but whatever,the guys not dumb.

Yeah it's cool as ****. Only problem is he is 0-1, so they'll have to fix that soon, or completely ignore that and market him as a 0-0 kickboxing master?

Or simply mention it was from 2004 and he fought a veteran UFC fighter when he didn't even train in mma.Get Rogan in there he'll make the casuals think he's superman with an 0-1 mma record.Once people see him fight it'll be easy to promote him assuming he doesn't just get wrestle ****** in his first fight.Give him a low tier guy with little grappling and he should get a highlight reel KO they can spam it going into his future fights if they want.I think his kickboxing credentials are enough to promote him to casuals for sure.

Definitely, going via Rizin would have been much better for him. With the buoyant European boxing scene at the moment I'm surprised he didn't go that way. He could have rematched Spong but in boxing within 18 months. You have to think the UFC offered him mucho dinero.
