Personally think your down playing it by calling cerrone and mel "gate keepers to the top 10". Cerrone was ranked in the top 5 when Eddie fought him, and Mel was one fight removed from his title shot and I believe was ranked at or near the top 5. Also Pettis I believe was also ranked in the top 5 when Eddie fought him. He was only one fight away from having the title at that time. I feel like your playing a bit of revisionist history. Eddie resume was pretty insane at the time. Looking back at it now is one thing, but at the time, they did certainly throw him through the ringer. That pretty much three top 5 fighters at the time in when he fought them.

Basically neither have ever and maybe will never hold UFC gold so beating them to get a title shot isn't a gauntlet, it's a tough route to the shot.

I'm just hoping that it stays on the feet, and that he picks Nelson apart from the outside. His defense it's not the best, so I could see him getting cracked and finished. Hope that doesn't happen, since HW would benefit of having more top 10 guys under 30.
