Just now heard about the last batch of (35!) fighters removed from the UFC website five days ago and couldn't find a post about it, so here they are:

Anthony Birchak
Clay Collard
Maximo Blanco
Geane Herrera
Brock Lesnar
Taylor Lapilus
Seohee Ham
Takeya Mizugaki
Brendan O’Reilly
Erik Perez
Lorenz Larkin
Rick Story
Jessamyn Duke
Cole Miller
Elvis Mutapcic
Joe Gigliotti
Fredy Serrano
Fernando Bruno
Yao Zhikui

Adam Hunter
Joey Gomez
Bartosz Fabinski
Augusto Montano
Yaotzin Meza
Yves Jabouin
Milana Dudieva

Anton Zafir
Tony Sims
Lukasz Sajewski
Tiago Trator
Kenny Robertson
Francisco Rivera
Roldan Sangcha-an
Gasan Umalatov
Jon Delos Reyes

source

Granted some of these are just at the end of their contracts and decided to go free agency (like Larkin) or did not reach an agreement over a new contract (like Story), but after the very weird cutting of ranked fighters like Bagautinov and Makovsky, seeing names like Rick Story, Mizugaki, Larkin, Perez and Birchak going away I wonder what the hell is going on.

Less events? Not a chance, in fact, expect more watered down cards with less quality fighters. How is WME supposed to make back that 4 bil other than profiting off the blood and sweat of newcomers and underpaying most of the roster.

Or was it a ****** deal UFC was giving him?I never know with this kind of stuff cause I just don't care enough to delve into details/contract details, but imo he probably left cause UFC didn't treat him properly or offered him a **** continuance contract. To me that's basically getting cut.

Lorenz seems like a fair fellow (just guessing) and a guy that wants to fight the best, but at the same time not a guy to be ****** around with.I'm guessing it's UFC's fault he walked, and that ******* sucks.Or how they treated him prior to him finishing his contract so it was a sorta long time coming.Anyway you slice it,I'm just going to blame the UFC for not keeping one of the most exciting fighters on their entire roster,I don't see it like he just walked cause he felt like doing something else.Maybe he made crazy demands and it's on him, idk, but UFC sucks at this kind of thing, and it's only getting worse.

No. If you'd actually take thirty seconds to read and look through the list, you'd see it's Cole Miller.

I don't care that the C & D level guys got cut but the most disappointed thing is getting rid of ranked fighters, and ones on streaks. You should have job security if you win 2-3 in a row right? Maybe even if you're Top 20 if the goal is to be the NFL of MMA. I'm getting tired of people saying most of this is just contact expirations. I guarantee, most of them probably wanted an extension.

@boredoms, They cut their Top 20? That was the context, try to at least frame it that way...

I'm just saying that NFL is hardly a good example of an organization that treats its athletes well.

One reason I used the NFL example because it's the biggest sport. NFL of MMA is almost a meme amongst MMA circles, or at least I thought it was a common meme among MMA fans.

However, they do treat their athletes better than MMA does, they even have the NFLPA. If the UFC wants the image of the NFL in terms of prestige (or treatment of athletes) then they need to step it up. The NFL model is objectively better than the UFC's for athletes.

If your main quibble is with the NFL, that's fine, let's use any sport; PGA, NBA, NHL, MLB, whatever one you're okay with using of a sport treating their athletes better than MMA, which is pretty much any sport.

@mikeyg Larkin was a contract expiration and he was offered an extension he just turned it down. He wanted to test free agency though it didn't help when Bellator said they weren't going to actively pursue him. I read Story also entered free agency as had Perez and Lapilus. It is likely they were all offered contracts they just didn't like the terms and are looking to see if anyone else will give them a better offer. UFC said I think you are worth this much, the fighter said well I think I am worth this much, UFC replied not to us but you are welcome to see if you are to anyone else. That is not being cut that is a fighter chosing to leave because they don't like their pay. That's just how jobs in general work. Cut to me is being fired because you no longer seserve to be there, they weren't fired they chose to leave to hopefully find a better paying job.

Low-ball offers are also a way to cut someone or hope you get them cheap though. They wouldn't have gone into free agency if their offer wasn't such ****. If guys like Lapilus and Perez are choosing free agency, that's a huge red flag for the UFC's cheapness. Low-balling is gonna be a new tactic, which is why I predicted more newbies coming in and more vets leaving.

Unless you're the elite of the elite there isn't much job security in the NFL. The average career length is less than 4 years. Most NFL contracts aren't guaranteed and teams can cut players whenever they want.
