Damn, that's harsh.  I feel for the dude.   As much as I'd hate to see it, I'd like to see Jake pull out of his Ellenberger fight.  I know he's a mentally tough cat but I don't wanna see the guy get hurt going in with this on his mind.

that really is terrible news for something to happen like that right before he is in the main event

@Heretic.. I had the same thought go through my mind.  This at the very least will greatly effect his training coming into the fight.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the Shields family.

I think Shields is the kind of guy that will go out and fight harder because of it tho

@Skeet he may go out and fight harder but with the power Ellenberger has and without a clear mind, it could end up bad for Jake.  Don't need to see an unnecessary injury ya know.  We saw how Forrest fought Saturday and that was with the bittersweet thought of his wife giving birth without him on his mind, I can only imagine how Jake's mind will be if he steps in there.

I agree THJ. Whatever he decides to do it's his choice and it's for a reason, but I do think he should pull out of the fight personally. They say it's all about mental in the fight game and I don't think it's a good idea to fight. He needs to take some time off for himself. To mourn for his father and clear his mind before jumping into the Octagon again. Just what I think.

Agreed Kalibo. We'll see. If he does decide to fight I'll be pulling for him.

@skeet I totally agree with you. I think for as sad as this is Jake seems like he would go out there and fight for his father. Very sad news and my thoughts and prayers go out to the Shields family.

That really sucks =/

I like Shields, he seems like a nice guy.

Now I'll feel bad for picking Ellenberger, but I see it going two ways,

Either Jake goes into super-saiyan mode to fight for his dad, or depression gets the best of him.

I'm very sorry for Jake and his family for their loss. Losing a parent is truly tragic.

I sincerely hope he doesn't fight, simply because there is no way he will be in the right state of mind to do so.

Tapology's scrolling bar has a source from Junkie that corroborates that @Soccer.
