The Association of Boxing Commissions overwhelmingly voted to make changes to the unified rules today.

Grounded fighters rule change amounts to fighters needing to have more than just a hand and two feet on the canvas.

Fighters that reach out towards the opponent with extended fingers will be considered in violation of rules. Refs are being directed to stop this practice during fights (WHAT WILL JBJ DO??!?!?!??! lol).

Also on their minds was scoring. Looks like we might be seeing more 10-8 rounds than we have in the past as it is defined somewhat more liberally than it used to be.

Personally, while change is slow and imperfect, I think all of these things are overall moving the rules and judging in the right direction.

Good.  Hopefully they will bring back 12-6 elbows next time for potential rule changes.

Getting rid of the hand on the mat rule? Good

Preventing fighters from extending their hands? I'm uncertain about this because if done properly and without fouling, it's a good way to get your range, at least at first until you find range. I would have liked to see them just take away points more liberally for eye pokes and longer recovery time for pokes.

More 10-8 rounds? Yes, Good, I think it will prevent people from going for wins on rounds and makes it more like a real fight where damage and domination is better than winning rounds.

Wait, it says in the article that women aren't required to wear groin protection? Why? A swift kick to the **** I'm sure still hurts a lot. I haven't even seen a **** punt yet in MMA yet, has anyone else? I've been waiting patiently for that to happen.

Tapology may have to instal a 'draw' option for submitting picks ;)

I have asked the Tapology brass for years to implement draws and no contests as available options. You see the two fighters who are fighting each other and you absolutely know that it's going to be a draw or a no contest. But I can't technically predict that. I have to settle on picking one of the fighters to win by some ******** method when I know that it's complete horse****. ******* pisses me off.

So heel strikes to the kidneys from your back are legal now? I think that and the grounded opponent rule are good changes.

The extended fingers would be a good change. Eye pokes happen a ton and I can remember at least a couple fights that had to be stopped because of it. They start taking points away right off I bet we don't see them as much.
