Mainly because of how close the Makdessi fight was. Makdessi isn't a bad fighter at all, and you could argue Baghdad won that fight, a lot of people both in and outside of the media scored the fight for him. I would have given him one more shot against a lower level guy before cutting him.

Remember the stragglers I was referring to..

Well, Makdessi is an undersized one dimensional straggler.

The problem with the Baghdad cut is that they should have made the cut before scheduling him for UFN 97. If the UFC thinks that the current version of Baghdad is not good enough to appear on other events outside of UFN 97, then what does that say about the intended quality of UFN 97? This clearly shows that the UFC was sending out an inferior product for UFN 97.

Fighters get cut and the prove themselves in others orbs and come back. I'm sure this will happen to some of the mentioned fighters.

Yet somehow Angela Magana manages to stay on the roster ... she's like Herpes ... if you needed to thin down the 115lbs division why the **** would you start with Stanciu (who fought Maryna Moroz on short notice and Cortney Casey in her first two fights, that's crazy!) when you've got that piece of toe-cheese on your roster.

Yeah kinda like the Sarah Kaufman cut making no sense. She won a bunch of fights in a row (surrounding the Rousey loss) and the NC with Eye,which I thought she won, then beats Leslie Smith, then loses to Alexis Davis after winning most of the fight she gets caught in an ambar, then loses a split decision to the girl that beat Holly Holm in Valentina Shevchenko and gets cut.She is a very good fighter and great for the division, like a high level gatekeeper (I don't like that word but it fits). Then they pick up unknown'ers cause they have an undefeated record against nobodies and whoever else they picked up,not to mention she's better than 75% of the division.I felt bad for her.

Stanciu probably deserved another fight, but she would most likely just be racking up her third UFC loss in a row, unless they match her up against Magana.

The Kaufman cut was unfair, but I think that was simply a case of the UFC brass not liking her very much.

I really like Stanciu myself. She had two tough opponents in Moroz and Casey. Casey had a huge win over Randa Markos in the first round too...so she's legit.

Still, Stanciu getting cut may be good for her career. I hope she goes to Invicta and racks up some wins there against lesser competition than the murderer's row at strawweight, but better than the Romanian circuit. Invicta would be great for her to get more seasoning against North American/South American competition. Then let her come back to the UFC a better fighter.

I guess beating up Avila saved Artem Lobov's butt...up until that fight Artem hadnt even won a ROUND in UFC fights ( not including TUF of course) ... I bet hes on the next cut list though... Probably Cody East as well? What you guys thinks?

@StreamFan I feel like East may get one more chance. Only because the HW division is shallow, and the other reason being that he was featured on Dana White: Looking for a Fight, I believe. That alone may get him one last chance. As for Lobov, he would have been cut before the Avila fight if he weren't besties with Conor. If he gets finished in the first round in his next bout, then MAYBE he'll be gone? Most other people would be, anyway.

Probably 2 more losses for Lobov will do it.

it will be kind of funny if Artem loses 4 straight

and still sticks around because Conor won't let the UFC cut him

re: Sarah Kaufmann, she was technically not cut. Her contract expired.

Per Sarah herself, "I think 125 mentally is a big challenge for me. That could be very helpful in producing the kind of kick in the butt I need to actually show up into fights, because my last fight was just disgusting."

on the other end of the weight spectrum, she's also interested in fighting Cyborg.

I consider the UFC declining to renew her contract being cut,and i'm pretty sure thats what happened. Her saying her last fight was "disgusting" a split decision to the girl that beat Holly Holm is imo her just being humble and knowing her capabilities and potential when on.I think Valentina kinda shocked her how strong she was in the clinch and with her wrestling, thinking she was mostly a striker and it threw her off big time and never really got in the fight mentally, not that it matters. Also like someone said earlier in the thread that the UFC brass simply disliked her,I forgot about that but I remember the issues now and the probability of the cut being due to that is likely, unfortunately.

@Kuma OK OK! Wasn't trying to make a substantial argument. Just noting a fact.

sharing facts, apparently a great way to get downvoted around here

whoa dude,I didn't down vote you (in the new post either).I don't down vote very often.Considering there's often different information on the internet it's hard to say someone didn't read another reason someone isn't with the org,or if someone walked away from the contract offered and the UFC didn't wanna play ball, could come out either way on paper.I was simply saying what I heard, and you shouldn't care about downvotes people get downvoted in phenomenal posts all the time, just how it is.

Good question. I could understand if there was some mechanic that made your posts invisible after you got enough downvotes, like (I think) there is on reddit. But post score doesn't really make a difference on here, from what I can tell.

Post scores mean nothing here ... in fact the only way to get a major downvote shower on this site (barring super racist or ****** up posts) is to complain about downvotes ...
