Smart move.

Assuming he wins on Thursday night.

Yeah the floodgates will probably open now. The UFC will have to start treating these guys better or rework this whole Reebok deal or they are going to be losing some good talent.

I don't like how the UFC is treating Sterling. The don't book him very often, even though he asks for fights and he's in his athletic prime. Plus they're forcing him to fight in Vegas, even though he came out against the commission and he asked them to switch him to the Orlando card the next week instead and the UFC denied that request. Also they buried him in on the prelims on a Fight Pass card, even though he's an exciting fighter with a high finishing rate.

The UFC's talent management is borderline ********. I mean seriously, most MMA hardcore fans have known that Sterling is a future contender (at least, if not champ) for 2 years and the UFC still don't recognize this dude is a keeper. This dude is a guy you bring up and a future star of the sport (something he should've already been by now if they had half a brain to share between them).

Bendo didn't start the trend

Gilbert starter the trend. Even "the diamond" said he was gonna test Free Agency before Bendo did.

i remember sterling was thinking about joining Bellator before he even signed with the ufc. He's probably the most likely to go out of the 3.

Sterling has a lot of leverage now to get a decent deal after that solid win he had.  Hopefully, he finally gets paid what he is worth.

I don't think he has as much as you think ... leverage over the UFC is numbers not wins.

Sure, they want good fighters and Sterling's division is thin as **** on contenders, but if he gets too ahead of himself they'll have no problem letting him go.

He's got leverage from a meritocracy standpoint. Clearly he isn't a big star, but the UFC had him ranked No. 5 in their division BEFORE that win. He's a top 5 BW who's undefeated at 26 years old. Looks bad to let him go.

Almeida got everything he ask for and sterling doesn't have anything even if he finish guys like Mizugaky. I agree with him, if UFC doesn't  pay you more money and doesn't  put you on the main card, go see what the competition has to offer.

Im all up for Sterling getting more he really deserves it but the rankings mean ****...remember Fitch and Okami, the UFC only cares about numbers not who´s the better fighter. Sterling is definetly champion material and for some reason the UFC doesn´t give a **** about him or whatever little ****s they give is to **** him over. If he can´t get a good deal on the UFC I hope he goes someplace else.

Sterling is different than Okami or Fitch though as he is just now hitting his prime. Guy is top 3 talent, future champ potential. I don't see any way the UFC lets him go. They'll throw a better contract offer his way (hopefully).

Sterling can make more $ elsewhere

With this Reebok BS Sterling has the potential to make alot more money in Bellator or WSOF. In those promotions he will be a title contender right away. If he resigns with the UFC, expect to see him hidden away on the prelims for atleast 2 or 3 more fights.

@michigan, if the UFC were interested in him I think they would give him fights more often, specially if he is asking for them.
