It's in the champion's home country, Silva/Belfort would make a great co-main, and wasn't Werdum supposed to return around this time anyway? IMO, a PPV event should always have a belt on the line unless it's an amazing superfight.
If RDA defends, I don't think he'll want to fight again this soon. If Aldo defends, there's no way he fights again just three months later. And I can't see any other champ defending their belt on foreign soil. Rousey just wanted to prove a point against Correia. Logically, it makes perfect sense to have Werdum fight on this card.

Granted Silva is 40, needed PEDs to recover from a serious leg injury, and is clearly not the #1 P4P fighter in the world that he was prior to losing to Weidman twice. Furthermore, while Belfort gave Weidman a scare in the first round at UFC 187, he clearly has lost a step since coming off TRT and his win over a glass chinned Dan Henderson didn't do much to sway anybody.
Still, this is somewhat of a big fight with two of UFC's biggest stars, historically at least, in Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort. And yet we sit here unimpressed, hoping that Werdum/Velasquez II is tacked on to the card as the main event. Do you think that that we would all be having this same jaded reaction to this fight if Anderson Silva never popped for PEDs at UFC 183? I'm not so sure that we would.

While many are not excited for this fight, I'm rather intrigued. There's many questions to ask, and this fight will answer those questions for both fighters.
#1. Who is really past their prime?
#2. Are both fighters still relevant in the UFC/to MMA?
#3. Will both fighters be able to pass a drug test?
#4. Will both fighters still fight the same style they always have, or will they show something different?
#5. Should the winner get the winner of Weidman/Rockhold?
#6. Should the loser of this fight retire?

Are they Still relevant? Of course, they are two of the few big names in MMA.
Will they be able to pass a drug test? They are able to, whether they do or not will be seen..not a very good question.
Will both fighters show the same style? Well, since training at the Machida Dojo and getting his blue belt in Shodokan along with super steroid power level boosts, Vitor has changed up his means of fighting a little...now he's a lethal kicker too. Anderson will fight the same, but they will both be deflated **** bags of their former selves.
Should the winner get a title shot? Heavens no.
Should the loser retire? Anderson should have never come back and if Vitor loses he should consider it and if he wins, he should fight an actual contender and not another big name washed up old man.
