UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia Discussion Thread

The fighters are weighed in and we're set to go for UFC 190. 

Prelims kick off on UFC Fight Pass at 7pm ET before switching over to FS1 at 8pm. The 7-bout main card airs on PPV at 10pm.

Ronda via 1st round Murder Death Kill....

No one’s really giving Correia a chance. People think Rousey is more skilled than Correia in every aspect and they’re probably right. But can’t you see a scenario where Correia actually wins the belt? 

Because even I can’t. 

Rousey wins in any way she feels like winning.

The first thing they teach you when you train UFC is that fighting is all mental. Who cares if someone is better than you in every aspect of UFC. You just have to believe in yourself and YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!

For example, let’s say you’re getting armbarred. You don’t just tap out like a *****. You might as well just retire, go back to school, and major in tapology. No. Mind over matter. YOU MUSCLE YOUR WAY OUTTA THAT ****.

All Correia has to do when she’s getting armbarred is to do a bicep curl.

The rest will fall into place. Both fighters standup. Correia gets control of both of Rousey’s wrists and just repeatedly Bethe-slaps Rousey with her own hands. Kinda like the end of Dillashaw-Barao II except Barao isn’t hitting himself.

This goes on for like three minutes straight and Rousey has to tap out to save further embarrassment.

I can't unsee the weird belt dance Bethe did at her birthday party - Ronda by whatever she wants.

Yea Its not likely. Bethe only has a punchers chance. She has shown absolutely NOTHING in her ufc fights that say she can give Ronda any issues anywhere in this fight.

I barely even give Bethe a puncher's chance. Her punches are looping and very sloppy. Barely even technical. Though I think Ronda Rousey has some overrated striking (when you take into account that her and her coaches have said that she could beat Holm in straight-boxing and Cyborg, Barrs, etc in straight-muay thai) I still think by women's 135 lb standards in MMA she has some of the best hands. If Bethe comes in on her the way she has everyone else she has fought, she will get dumped on her head in LITERALLY seconds. Bethe is the worst person Ronda has fought by miles. This will be a massacre, and even though Ronda is saying she wants this to be a prolonged beating, I think it ends in under 40 seconds. 

@Mike, Ronda's punching technique is actually very good, what she's bad at is ring-craft. Her movement is straight forward while pumping out her jab so she can get to the clinch as fast as possible even at the expense of eating a punch or two on the way.

When she does connect however she has serious knockout power. She slept Alexis Davis with a hook before she took her on a joyride and sent her to wrestle Yves Lavigne (she was out before the toss) and she folded McMann with a knee and she's tough as ****. Ronda is actually aware of this. She said in a recent interview that her fast finishes were due to her skipping steps (as in ring cutting and proper setups), so maybe there's an extra level in Ronda's striking we've yet to see, who knows.

Betche on the other hand hasn't knocked anyone out ever in the first round (which she has predicted she would Honda) and her only TKO at UFC level (and I'm giving her a lot of slack by calling Baszler UFC level) was a ref stoppage on a gassed out opponent, by no means punching power related. So I agree with you, she barely qualifies for the puncher's chance category due to her not being that kind of puncher.

I will laugh if Ronda gets KOed but I doubt it happens.

Does anyone want to play some drinking games with me during the fights. So here's how they go: one shot for every time they say Bethe as *****, one shot for every time Goldberg brings up how ripped Nordine Taleb is.

If Magny completely dominates Maia how would you see that fight going? Even though I think Lawler beats Condit, I think Magny would get outstruck worse by Condit than he would by Lawler.

I went back and forth on several of these picks.  I still might change one or two before fight time.

Has there ever been a less deserving title opponent in UFC history?  The only one I can think of is possibly Nate Quarry and even he had some impressive performances against lesser opponents before his shot.

Yeah but Diaz was a long standing contender who lost a close decision to Condit, Sonnen at least had victories over Nate Marquardt and Paulo Filho, all of the flyweights have established themselves in that division etc.  Even Soto had success in Bellator.  Correia has no impressive victories over anyone and hasn't faced anyone within a thousand miles of being a contender.
