I think Gus has a better shot than Rumble did, styles make fights. And I want Gus to have the belt because I think when Jones comes back his toughest challenge would be Gus anyway.

It is a weird stylistic fight here. I could very easily see Gustaffson using his reach to his advantage here and running circles around DC and using his kicks and jabs to win the points. Gustafsson has better TD defense than Rumble and better stand up than Cormier.

I do believe Gus has a chance if can stop the takedowns, but I feel Cormier is too smothering and will grind one out here. Probably not a fun one to watch.

Hate using MMAath since it can go the other way with DC beating Rumble and Rumble beating Gus, but I'm actually pretty confident in Gus based on how both of them did against Jones.

I'm still in awe how much better Gus did against Jones, arguably beating Jon in many people's eyes, while DC got pretty easily defeated by Jones. I think the Jones MMAath is more relevant than the latter MMAth based on the styles.

Gus has the takedown defense, the reach, the jab, and the footwork to keep this on the feet, the scrambling ability to get back up, the cardio to go 5 rounds, the toughness factor and he isn't a fish out of water on his back either, he can make his way to the fence and get back up.

I just don't see how DC can hang with Gus on the feet and if DC can't get his grappling going it's going to be a very bad night for DC. I want to see Gus vs Jones II anyway, not DC vs Jones II at this point.

Gus did do much better than Cormier did against Joens but thats because DC kept trying to get the TD which was not working.  i believe that DC will take Gus down easier than jones did.  Jones sets up his takedowns with stirkes while DC does not rely on that as much.

Anyways, MMAth does not count here as Cormier beat AJ and Gus did not. Styles make fights.

That not accurate description of there fight at all. DC was content striking the vast majority of the fight and only really pushed for the take down in the last round. Not sure what fight you were watching..............

He had to strike with him because his takedowns were not workign early on.  he kept trying.  He did try more in the fifth round but he tried all of the fight,

He barely even attempted a take down in the first, in fact Jones was the first one to even go for a takedown. Cormier was content striking with Jones especially early on. He did not even really try for take downs until late in the fight in particular the fiften round. Majority of the fight he was content striking. You are just misrepresenting how the fight went down. Cormier tried one take down a round for the first 4. In the 5th he went all wrestle mode, but prior to that he was pretty dam content striking especially for the first 3 rounds.

yes, Jones did get the first takedown but did i say that Cormier did?

So, you saying that Cormier did not attempt at all until the fifth?

Gus is a worse match up for Cormier than Jones.

Allhailkrull,

I think it matters on whether Cormier cannot hold him down.

I really wanna pick Gus on this one but I have my doubts & I kinda feel like Gus does too.
Skills wise either guy has the ability to win this fight but Cormier has a big mental advantage in my eyes.

He doesn't sound like the same Gustafsson that took Jones down to the wire 2 years ago, he seemed to take his loss to Rumble pretty badly, he said himself he had thoughts of retirement after the loss & last week I read that he was thinking about investing his money in a nightclub because he might not have many years left in MMA, despite being only 28...  These comments makes it sound like he's having a lot of doubts on his future.

Meanwhile Cormier, who is nearly 10 years older, has given no indication of slowing down. He's also the kind of fighter that feeds off breaking people's will & if Gus starts to become doubtful at any point in the fight, I think Cormier will expose this effectively to his advantage the same way he did with Rumble.

In this situation I usually go with my heart over my head but I'm finding it difficult to do so on this one.
