Forget GSP vs Anderson Silva, Fedor vs Overeem, Sonnen vs Brazil or K1 and Sonnen vs Silva in a handicap match, this is the real "dream match", the "cross-over" you've been waiting for, the fight that will "take you for a ride", this is Ken Shamrock vs James Toney.

Ah but we've heard this being announced only for it to somewhat fall through. Yes well this time it seems to be set on course for November (Christmas comes early :O) and it will be under "Special Rules MMA" invented and popularised by Royce Gracie.

So what will the Special Rules be? "The pending bout between Shamrock and Toney is unique in that ground work following a takedown will be allowed to go for only 30 seconds and the fighters will have only that amount of time to finish their grounded opponent. Once the 30-second time limit expires, the two will be required to stand back up in fighting positions, regardless of position on the floor."

You can read about on the info here. http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=mmaweekly-b87f149594af74e4b242ac6377aba92b

So are you excited for the greatest freak match since Fedor vs Rogers?

Yeah I'm a bit excited not going to lie, would be good for Shamrock to take Toney down one more peg.

Hmm...just a cash grab for both guys. I'm still interested in seeing it, though.

Actually wouldn't mind seeing Toney catch Ken.

Why would Toney take a fight with a guy who is gonna take him down and sub him inside of a round again?

Since Ken Shamrock has become a punchline, him being beaten by Toney wouldn't embrasses MMA. I mean some boxing fans and outlets may point and laugh but we'd just look around and shrug going "yeah, so?"

This kind of freak match interests me because of both guys personalities.

@Soccer I dunno about that, I seen that video where Ken was saying he was going to put his hands on him and get in his face first. This might turn out like Sylvia vs Mercer.

@Ninja..I do agree with you but just to play devils advocate what was the boxing worlds reaction to Toney losing to Couture? I don't follow boxing enough to know what Toney's relevance was at the time but I know for sure he's more relevant in boxing than Shamrock is in MMA today

@Cash Most expected him to lose. Boxing fans generally have a feeling of superiority over MMA, but they still realize it's a different animal and crossover will rarely work out. Especially against such a talented grappler.

But they are also quick to say that a boxing match between Toney and Couture would be just as one-sided the other way.

Toney was already a shot boxer by the time he went up against Couture and had little - if any - popularity so they had some indifference. Hell a few cheered a bit.

I do think the Couture vs Toney build up did help cool down the Boxing vs MMA because Couture admitted that if he boxed in the ring, he probably would have been knocked out while Toney at least stepped up and did follow through in going for an MMA match instead of bailing at the last second.

Also I think the UFC should have a freak show match now and then (read: very rarely). But at the same time I'm not gonna push for it lol.

@mystic like one on the new years card every year.  Put up a poll and sign the fight based on the poll.

Yeah. with some money from the fight going to charity ^_^ Hence the freak show fight would have some small value.

Hell it would be a good way to get Minowaman to the UFC :D

i heard this was not an actual MMA match because of a 30 sec time limit when/if the fight goes to the ground. i would agree if this is true.
