Seeing  how Wrestling is one of the most popular bases in MMA, i thought that it would be goof if i started a thread that  would allow for people to understand and follow the storylines and techniques at the highest level collegiate and international level competition.  I will create a Ranking system and give scouting reports of the top 10 guys at each weight class and provide updated weekly rankings every Monday. The first event i'm covering is NWCA National dual finals between Iowa and Missouri.

65 KG's is Nasty, Metcalf could get upset here by 3-4 of these guys.

Kellen Russell over Jayson Ness sets up Russell/Stieber semi-final Logan can win it and looked a lot better in the Open quarter final against Russell but Russell is huge 65 KG with really good defense. Wouldn't be shocked if either guy won but money is on Russell. Stieber over Chamberlin(was a pan-am champ this eyar, and along with Andrew Hochstrasser shares the distinction of being the only team mates to wrestle the same individual in the NCAA Finals match but at 2 different weights, Oliver beat Hochstrasser at 33, Chamberlin at 149 both are from Boise State. Molinaro/Kennedy is one to keep your eyes on, Molinaro is big and has a great hi-c and knee pull but Kennedy was the world rep alst year at 61 KG's and was beating current world #7 at the Yasar Dogu in Boris Novachkov until Novachkov got a clutch double in the waning 30 seconds of the match. I'm going Kennedy for the upset, but won't be shocked if Molinaro stifles his offense.  Oliver/Mckenna is pretty self-explanatory. Oliver beats Molinaro or Kennedy and then he's got either Stieber or Russell. Olvier can beat both but i prefer to see him agaisnt Stieber who kept it much closer at the 2014 US Open. The thing about Logan is he's been top 5 in freestyle since 2012 so some people's expectations are too high and they don't realize how close he is to these guys and that he can beat them.

74 KG'S Made me **** a Brick looking at the Bracket. Hard to pick here.

Anthony Valencia just graduated from St.John's Bosco high school in California and he already placed third at the US Open, that's some straight up Logan Stieber **** right there. Expect him to tech Caldwell here to set-up a match against David Taylor here, who very likely techs or pins him DT is on another level right now. Dake over Sponseller(AA from Ohio State) probably Dake just gets  go behind and wrap arm guts the **** out of Sponseller and breaks some of his ribs while he's at it. Howe over Godley all day every day.  sets up Howe/Dake Smei-final and this one is crazy. Dake has really improved hsi upper-bnody ties since he went greco great 2-1 and positioning, but Howe's defense is as stout as they come. Howe was a Yarygin runner-up and really should be a Yarygin champ but ref's ****** him over, great front headlock quite strong great defense great hand fighter. got Dake in a hellish match here. Dake/Taylor Challenge Tournament final. Taylor wins here. But it will be bat**** crazy, but as i said already Taylor if he wrestled for another country would be ranked #5 right now in the world, to put it in perspective for how good he is.  Taylor/Burroughs still got Burroughs but Taylor does have the ability to beat him in a match.

97 KG's

Varner over Zabriskie, Varner doesn't push for bonus points unfortunately. Varner vs. Kilgore semi. Varner wins there. Bottom half, Byers over Francois probably a tech, Bergman over Michalak, Byers over Bergman but could go either way.  Byers/Varner final Varner wins. Snyder/Varner rematch hope to god Snyder wins here, because Varner is Guillard-esque in his ability to put up inconsistent performances and he doesn't attack frequently enough.

juast watched his interview question about his torney ranking- class act. Valid points. Hes gonna have to just bite down on his mouth guard and make it happen.

Dake vs Burroughs again???
Hope Dake can take it all. Good to see him back in the mix.

74kg: Kyle Dake, Titan Mercury dec. Andrew Howe, NYAC, 2-1(Scary to think that all 4 of these guys can and should be ranked by UWW. Dake really can be top 5, already has a win over Tsargush while injured at that, Taylor beat Livan Lopez Azcuy, and Howe is a Yarygin finalist and should be a Yarygin champ but foreign refs going to foreign ref, Caldwell is a Pan-Am champ)

97kg: Jake Varner, NLWC tf. Dustin Kilgore, Sunkist Kids, 12-0(Great to see VArner finally up his scoring and really push the pace finally, if he keeps wrestling this way he can and will beat Snyder.
97kg: JD Bergman, NYAC dec. Enock Francois, NYAC, 5-0(Bergman was 2013 world team rep, Francois was the NYAC champ this year, 2014 University World Team Trials runner-up to Chris Perry at 86 KG's)

61kg: Jon Morrison, Titan Mercury dec. Kyle Hutter, Titan Mercury, 4-0
61kg: Dan Dennis, Titan Mercury tf. Joey Lazor, Panther WC, 10-0(Dennis beat Lazor, a 2014 AA for UNI placing 6th.)
61kg: Coleman Scott, Sunkist Kids vs. BYE

65kg: Jordan Oliver, Sunkist Kids tf. Joey McKenna, LVAC, 10-0(Olvier clowned on Mckenna who is a very very legit 61 KG wrestler, let em emphasize 61 KG's. Oliver is the scary combination of very good and very big for the weight class, and nasty defense and offense. sometimes suffers from what Varner does and can let guys not as good as him like Adam Hall beat him on pushing the pace not being tired but just not attacking enough
65kg: Jimmy Kennedy, NYAC dec. Frank Molinaro, NLWC, 4-2(Called it, Molinaro is very solid, but Kennedy is exceptional and has great Freestyle savvy.)
65kg: Logan Stieber, Titan Mercury dec. Jason Chamberlain, Titan Mercury, 6-4(Chamberlain is the 2015 Pan-Am champ, and a big guy at 65 KG with good defense so good showing from Logan beating him here.)
65kg: Kellen Russell, NYAC fall. Jayson Ness, MN Storm, 4:12(Russell looked great here)

74kg: David Taylor, NLWC vs. BYE
74kg: Tyler Caldwell, Sunkist Kids tf. Anthony Valencia, Sunkist Kids, 12-2(Caldwell showing a bunch of  improvement since the last time eh wrestled Valencia who teched him at the Open.)
74kg: Kyle Dake, Titan Mercury tf. Colt Sponseller, NYAC, 10-0(Dake is much better then Sponseller very simply)
74kg: Andrew Howe, NYAC tf. Quinton Godley, Titan Mercury, 12-2(Howe got taken down once by Godley, then put in a nasty gut wrench and teched him from there.

97kg: Jake Varner, NLWC tf. Dave Zabriskie, LVAC, 11-0(Varner teched his former Iowa State team mate Zabriskie who from what I've seen the minute he gets turned at all the guy has a ******* magnet on his back, Zabriskie is just a strange one to gauge but great job from Varner putting on the points here. )
97kg: Dustin Kilgore, Sunkist Kids dec. Micah Burak, Titan Mercury, 2-0(expected but surprising it was this low of a score)
97kg: Enock Francois, NYAC dec. Cayle Byers, Titan Mercury, 3-1(Big upset here from Francois beating the #3 seed in Byers who is a Dave Schultz invitational champ beating Kilgore the #2 at the time handily 12-8 score not reflecting how he controlled Kilgore had a great double that match,  Francois is a 3x NAIA AA and coach at Finger Lakes Wrestling club, University world team trials runner-up to Chris Perry in 2014 at 86 KG's)
97kg: JD Bergman, NYAC dec. Wynn Michalak, Titan Mercury, 5-2(Bergman beat Michalak who was the alst guy to beat Varner domestically before Snyder beat him at the Open finals)

48kg: Alyssa Lampe, Sunkist Kids fall. Candace Workman, Titan Mercury, 1:01

Predictions for Best of three finals.

Humphrey over Dennis here, that is of course if Humphrey doesn't try top coast like he does midway through the match after scoring on a pick or gut like he's been prone to do. watch his match against World-runner-up Masoud Esmailpour to see what i mean.  But Humphrey should win here, Dennis is on fire though so watch out for him. If his name sounds familiar because he's the guy who lost to Jayson Ness  in the final 10 seconds of their NCAA finals match in 133 in 2010 on one of the most clutch doubles into a duck under ever.

Metcalf should beat Oliver granted it won't be a high scoring match most likely and Oliver has the ability to beat Metcalf as well. Expect a rather chippy match and for it to go to the third match as well as it's very likely Oliver scores a win over Metcalf here. but also don't be surprised if Metcalf sweeps it in 2 super close matches with scores like 4-1 or 2-1.

Burroughs/Dake is going to be absolutely crazy and it isn't out of the question that Burroughs could lose to Dake here as Burrouhgs is known to start slow here which he can absolutely not do against Dake. dake has exceptional defense and his hand fighting is the best at this weight in fluidity and can score from anywhere and his p[ace today has looked exceptional. Burroughs here in  a very tight 3 match series but seeing Dake win here would not surprise me at all either. The keys to victory here for Burroughs  is to get his snaps and fakes working and from there he will get into his front head series where he sues a very exceptional shuck to go off to his hi- single where he'll  double off. Also snaps getting his man to react then when they're expecting a snap he level changes and gets a blast double. On par-terre here, Burroughs prefers suing a simply low-ankle lace. Burroughs will also use a very interesting set-up for a sweep single that is different in that he clubs with his lead hand so that eh can get his man's head to the leg that's he attacking and when they pop their head back up he explodes in on hi single and can either finish by driving through like Mehdi Teghavi, or he'll get it and double off. So overview of Burroughs strategy is start fast, don't give Dake underhooks, work his feints and snaps, Make his snaps a threat from the get-go as he doesn't want to have Dake tie him up too much.  Get to his front head and get Dake out of his stance and reacting. For Dake the strategy here is too get to his upper-body ties and move Burroughs from there, control the center of the mat, control burroughs so that he can't get to his feints and snaps, start fast which isn't really an issue for Dake, Burroughs is going to have a hard time here breaking Dake's position here and where as the threat with Taylor is his single and getting hyper extended on shots and him working his exceptional crotch lock series into a cradle, with Dake it's a real big challenge because he's got the positioning of Howe, yet the offensive capabilities of  a guy like Abdusalam Gadisov able to switch between shots and throws seamlessly.  Also Dake has the superior par-terre here, where he has a truly exceptional gut wrench for evidence of that watch his match against Arsen Julfalakyan where he gut wrenches the 2014 world champ twice.

I've got Varner over Snyder.
Alyssa Lampe over Victoria Anthony
Helen Maroulis over Sharon Jacobsen
Leigh Provisor over Jennifer Page
Elena Pirozhkova over Tamyra Menseh.

Kyle Snyder just beat Varner to make his first world team!  Beat him 4-1 first match, 3-0 next match.  This is fantastic news, and this puts Snyder with guys like Toghrul Asgarov, Jake Deitchler, Frank Chamizo, and Abdulrashid Sadulaev as guys who are 18-19 who made senior world teams.  Deitchler was a greco guy and made his right out of high school.

Burroughs beat Dake 6-3 first match. then teched him 14-4 next match. Burroughs is truly on another level and he is going to dominate worlds this year.  JUSt a bit surprised I thought Dake would really give Burroughs more of a neck and neck war here, but he still did great here. Hope he stays healthy so we could see him possibly wrestle at the Heydar Aliyev Grand Prix in Azerbaijan in November. That was the same tournament the beat Tsargush at.
Metcalf beat Olvier 9-4 first match then 7-0 next match. Metcalf made the necessary adjustments since the Open and really put a lot more points on the board then their last two matches. And remember Jordan Oliver is not an easy opponent by any means. Metcalf can beat the Russian at this weight but the real interesting thing going into worlds is to see who Azerbaijan picks for the 65 KG as they've got the #4 guy Magomed Muslimov there right now, but they've also got 2012 Olympic champ and #15 in the world Toghrul Asgarov at the same weight. Asgarov is one of the most technical wrestlers at this weight hands down and he's very big for 65 KG's. He's also on 22.
