CroCop is returning to the UFC. It will be announced shortly. Just got confirmation on it now from a source very ;) close to the situation

He'll never be the Pride Cro Cop again, this seems like a waste. let him crush cans in Japan to end his great career

As much as I am a big big fan of Mirko and as much as I really want to see Cro Cop vs Arlovski, I feel that it is really too little too late.

But a deal with a lot of money peaks interests.

Bellator wanted CroCop and had a deal 99 per cent done when UFC heard about it and stepped in with big $$$ just to keep him from Bellator

I rather see him in Bellator he hasn't been UFC level for several years now.  probably he will cost him more than he will draw.

on a side note, I don't think this will look good for the UFC on the lawsuit.

Wow that makes it even worse. Why keep Bellator from getting CroCop? Hes not the stud he once was. Dude got KO'ed by Mir and Shaub. But now UFC are wasting tons of money they could be using to give some top 20 up and comers a raise to bring back a guy that got murdered in his UFC stints

The UFC are starting to look very pathetic in their quest for anyone who can sell a few more seats.

No hate for CroCop and he's still better than a few of the fat slobs on the HW roster, but seriously, guys like Ben Askren don't get signed for the sole reason of him or his style not being marketable and an over the hill, already retired and came back 40 year old who most definitely is going to be paid more than Askren was (or at least similarly) is coming back after a lackluster first stint from when he was younger.

What will they say? That he's got better since his last stint? Gained a bit of experience and is now ready for the big show?

Who wants to bet me his first fight is against Ken Shamrock?

The moment I read the topic title, I was like "oh they're getting him so Bellator doesn't". Oh yeah.

I kind of like that the UFC and Bellator hate each other so much. It's kind of entertaining.

You want to sell seats with Cro Cop? How about Cro Cop vs Rampage in a UFC Japan? Milk that cash cow I guess. (*sarcasm)

Yeah, I'm going to reserve judgement because I don't believe this is happening. If anyone signs him, I think it will be Bellator. Even as weak as the HW division is right now, I think Dana and Lorenzo are better businessmen than that.

This signing is going to hurt the UFC's position in the anti-trust case.  Still, can't wait to see Cro Cop back in the Octagon.

@legacy: I disagree with your assessment that this looks bad for the UFC's lawsuit defense. It actually looks good, and it's probably their primary motivation for competing for the signing.

Think about it, Bellator was reportedly 99% sealed on a big money offer for Cro Cop. If the UFC came in and out-bid them, it means Cro Cop was able to leverage two top-tier competing promotions against each other to get a lucrative contract.

It's actually a perfect illustration that Bellator/Viacom is a viable competitor to the UFC, at least when it comes to free agent signings.

@skelliher True, but the fact that the UFC only signed him because Bellator almost had him signed to their roster could be seen as am anti-competitive signing that gives more favor to the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

Is it wrong that I would rather see Cro-Cop fight Kimbo or anyone in Japan vs getting crushed in the UFC?

@benjaminbrandt No.  I think anyone that is a fan of Cro Cop would rather see him not be back in the UFC, only because of the fact that he is not the same fighter he was in 2006.

I'll eat crow. I was wrong. I really didn't think they would actually resign him. Especially since John Joe O'Regan has been wrong quite a few times in the past.
