He's officially in the UFC even though he hasn't ever fought. This is clearly a publicity stunt but it will be interesting to see oh it pans out. How does everyone else view this?

I've never seen CM Punk perform in the WWE. I only heard of him because of the MMA Hour and Ariel Helwani's sit downs with him. Seems like an intelligent guy. I hope he's successful. Why not? It could be fun.

I think I can safely assume that most of us on this forum have no interest in professional wrestling, however you'd have to be in denial if you think that the narrative doesn't matter in MMA.

I'm optimistic about his signing.  I just hope they don't do what they did with Lesnar and have him fighting for the title after winning like 1 or 2 fights.

we don't have to worry about that because he won't win two fights in the UFC. On second thought, they might bring in nobodies just to feed to him. Who knows.

I'll be honest, I have no idea who CM Punk is. I mean I've heard of him, but no idea what his background is etc.
The UFC needs to find a draw for PPV, that is the sad, yet understandable, reality. That said, put the business aspect to one side, if he can come in and be competitive then I don't have a problem with this.

@grizzly  If Punk wasn't a former pro-wrestler, he wouldn't be getting as much hate.

it's true, but if he wasn't a former pro-wrestler he wouldn't be getting the UFC gig.

I don't know the guy, never have seen him wrassle or talk or fight r anything, have nothing against him, but this is just a huge MEH for me, it's just a random guy who has never fought pro MMA and got a golden ticket. They probably gonna Connor him and baby him and lobby him to death chasing more money.

I'm already bored by this

CM Punk will headline a FOX show in his first fight?

True or False

UFC is obviousy doing this for the ratings, why not go bust on it and get some huge ratings while you can!

I think it is took early to tell who he will fight first, but I would imagine that a lot of fighters are looking to fight him. Big name, very little MMA experience - seems like a perfect opportunity for any fighter looking to increase their exposure.

False, they are gonna milk that cash cow on PPV till it drys up. The only way he fights on FOX is if FOX compensates UFC for the loss of PPV revenue

the punk hate from Fighters is so pathetic . so many guys are looking like immature little kids . the guy should be fighting guys with a record like his and  that's what he will do . stop mentioning title shots you people are really thinking too far ahead it's hilarious . Punk is a bigger name then any jon jones or anderson silva and that's a fact  . you people don't realize that MMA really isn't that popular . Punk is more well known then all the current ufc fighters . this is great for the UFC . i really lost  a lot of respect for a bunch of fighters since last night with things they have said . they should respect Punk for having bigger balls then most people to step in there . but nope nothing but hate it's so pathetic .

"who has a record like his in the UFC? He should be fighting in Bellator."

Riddle and Mitrione were 0-0 when they debuted, currently Yao Zhikui is 1-3 (assuming he doesn't have fights missing off his record which could be the case), Angela Hill 1-0 against a nobody in a random bum**** promotion and lost her only fight on TUF, Jessica Rakoczy 1-4, Raquel Pennington got signed at 3-3 granted against tough competition. It's really not as uncommon as you think, and those fighters didn't even have the name value that Punk has.

Speaking of Bellator, looks like they are targeting pro wrestlers, particularly Dos Caras Jr/Alberto Del Rio.

I can't see him becoming champ but I definitely think he has it in him to become a credible part of the UFC's roster. Dana has said he won't just throw him to the wolves and I think he'll be fighting guys on his level. I'm very interested to see how this ends up and I think a lot of people are too.

They've had experiments before with James Toney and Kimbo Slice so hopefully this will at least be fun.

All people Live2Breaux listed went through the TUF house.

Hill, Rakozcy and Pennington all brought in with the unveiling of new divisions of the UFC womens BW and SW and went through TUF house to boot.

Rakozcy extensive boxing background, Hill Muay Thai n Kickboxing background.

Punk has no Gym, No Striking, mediocre BJJ.  They should have just hired him as a commentator and got rid of Goldie, that would be more interesting to me than a 36yr old with 0 experience that is waiting almost a year to debut.

I figure they will roll him out on the July 4th card during Fight Week or whatever they call it.

If the UFC wants to be a developmental league than that is up to them and their business model.

I would suggest they not try and do 46 events a year.  Funny they made more money doing less events and when they oversaturated the market their financials have tanked.
