He's officially in the UFC even though he hasn't ever fought. This is clearly a publicity stunt but it will be interesting to see oh it pans out. How does everyone else view this?

I'm surprised they haven't talked more about this during the fights and they've been able to focus and continue calling the fights as they seem to be doing that when Brock was fighting in the UFC.

I really hope they put him up against Condit for Condit's return fight so that this old fool can get his ass kicked so bad he'll retire from MMA. Unfortunately, my guess is they'll sign some dude they know sucks so that they can talk about how great Punk is for at least one fight. If I heard correctly at the bar, he'll be entering at WW so I assume they'll have him fight somebody like Edgar Garcia or Anthony Lapsley.

Dana has already said they will match Punk up against someone with a record like his. why would you wanna put him in with Condit ? the hate on punk is so stupid . everyone is crying tonight he's one of the biggest names in Pro Wrestling currently this is huge for the UFC . the top 10 guys who are calling him out look like ******* . they and others should respect him for having the balls to get in there as a 0-0 fighter and being at the age he is . but nope nothing but hate it's stupid .

He brings nothing to the table other than a name. As long as they don't have him fight some random off the street, he will get crushed.

@gunn Actually, that's exactly the problem. They're going to match him up with someone as bad as a TUF reject. The UFC already has an overabundance of fighters and many of them aren't world class. One of the things that has been brought up incessantly this year is that the quality of fighters on the undercard is just bad compared to a few years ago and that's primarily because they're signing guys that don't deserve to be there. I don't hate Punk, I hate that they're gifting a ton of money to a guy that hasn't paid his dues in the sport and earned it.

Also, why not put him in with Condit? It would be similar to what they did with James Toney when he competed in MMA. Randy was on a 3-fight win streak and was only 2 years removed from being champ. Hell, by the logic of that, they should be asking GSP to return against Punk. You can argue that Toney had real combat experience, but it wasn't the same sport in any manner. Everyone knew what the hell was gonna happen.

When opportunity knocks, you have to answer the door. Who are we to hate on CM for not having fought before? He will sell whatever PPV he will be on.

If the UFC were to call my phone to fight for them, I would say yes and wouldn't give a **** what anyone would say. See my quote for my training methods.

Let's not act like CM Punk is the first fighter in the history of the UFC to make his MMA debut in the octagon. Sure this stunt is a little Pride FC but until I actually see him fight I will reserve judgment.

MMA and Pro wrestling go hand in hand. Pro wrestling made MMA like it or not. It's funny people whine "ooooooh I want PRIDE back" and the like but protest when anyone does something PRIDE like. Just funny that MMA fans feel so threatened by it when the majority of fan faves, stars, and pioneers were pro wrestlers and the earliest MMA promotions started out with shoots and even had wrestling type of rules in fights.

UFC needs stars badly because they are so inept at creating them, this is a big chance for them for at least 1 time. If he has success then they have an answer to plummeting PPV rates. Increased PPV rates = more money for the fighters that get a chunk of it.

Was a pro wrestler who transitioned to MMA (admittedly at a much younger age in a much different era).
