Quinones dosnt have great maths skills- he had his hand up through all the scores being read out... if the judges are scoring it 29-26, and youve had 2 points deducted... does he think he did so well the judges wanted to give it to him 31-26 before the deduction? youve got to know you havnt won going into that decision.

I thought the 2-point deduction was just. The headbutt was not only illegal, it was intentional. John McCarthy does not mess around when it comes to what's acceptable and what's not in a fight. I'm sure that in the pre-fight instructions both fighters were made more than aware of what the Rules Of The Octagon are.

I wish more refs would deduct points when there's a blatant or repetitive foul. Cuz other fighters see "oh he grabs the fence and doesn't get a point decuted, so I can do it and get away with it. Send a message.

Upon re-examining the headbutt it did look intentional, and if the rules call for a 2 point deduction for an intentional foul, I guess so be it. I personally feel like 1 point would have been a more just punishment. By deducting 2 points from a fighter you're basically saying "You better have won every round clearly" or "You better finish" I'll be honest, the only referee I can remember deducting 2 points is Big John though. On two different occasions, the one tonight, and in a heavyweight fight on a Bellator event he took two points away from a guy for blindly throwing a hammerfist at a guy's balls. I found that deduction to be accurate if not too light.

@ CthulhuJones - I don't know if that's what the rules called for. I think it's up to the referee to decide how many points a fighter should/can be deducted for a foul. I've never read the rulebook myself, but I've heard somewhere that a continued unintentional foul (if the other fighter can continue) is a 1-point deduction, and an intentional foul can be up to 3 points (depending on the severity of the foul). Don't quote me on that, but I've heard that.
