What are the rules in the MMA community with religious headdress? I'm not trying to start ****, I am just curious. I know it is a hot topic in certain sports, but I have never heard anything about it in MMA. A google search proved little help.

I think if anything it would be a detriment to the fighter wearing it. It would most likely provide more friction and easier access to chokes. But I do not know any sanctions against them.

I thought about that too, but what about the risk of it coming off during the fight?

Too wear it would be absolutely stupid, but looking at it from a cultural aspect it "kind of" makes sense. Except most places where they wear a head dress aren't all that modernized..... and women wouldn't get away with something like that....

Not to mention it could be used as an advantage or disadvantage for her.

There was one instance that I have read about where a female was allowed to fight while wearing one. Ill see if I can dig up the story. I think it was a special one made for fighting so it wouldnt come off.

I dont think that will be the case with this fight. Here she is doing medicals for ONE without one on, so I dont think it will be a big deal if she doesnt wear one to fight

Edit: Here is the story, guess it was for BJJ comps not MMA

http://www.arabsmma.com/ibjjf-lifts-hijab-ban-for-women-bjj-fighters/

I still could swear ive read about a Female MMA fight where one was worn

Edit 2: Here it is , it was for a Muay Thai fight not MMA

I don't see it being a problem. Doesn't really affect the striking, and if anything it puts the wearer at a disadvantage on the ground because of chokes. So if anything, I would WANT my opponent to wear it if I was fighting.

That's OK.  Whenever the "Tapology Watches" thread comes up, I think of timepieces with the Tapology logo instead of a thread about TV shows.

This is btw just her profile picture (and taken from the original SFL website). She obviously doesn't fight in it.

Not even in the SFL:

This chick tomorrow looks like she will be competing in a MMA match while wearing her hijab.

I have yet to see a picture of her without it including at the weigh ins and she looks like she has one of the special ones made for grappling.

The question is too broad because there is no one rule set for the sport itself. The pic above is from the middle east I believe and they don't follow the unified rules. I don't think they would be allowed under the unified rules, but would have to check.

Otherwise Gus can wear this.

In all seriousness I bet they could were those olympic speed skating outfits and not have to worry about it getting in the way.
