Not a good match-up for Gomi at all. Not really a fight that does much for Jury either. I mean, sure, a win over Gomi on your record is never a bad thing. But in terms of rankings? It's not like a win here will put him in line with a guy like Nurmagomedov or something.

Gomi will likely swing for the fences all night while Jury point fights, and I don't mean "point fights" as a bad thing. Jury won't stand and trade in the pocket with Gomi, and he shouldn't. As long as Jury fights the way Jury usually fights, should be an easy unanimous decision win for him.

They should have booked Gomi vs. a guy like Erik Koch imo.

Zuffa wants Gomi to lose. While Jury seems to be more technical and may have a speed edge, Gomi has tighten up his style since his loss to Florian. Especially starting in the Diego Sanchez fight, which was almost as one sided of a fight than Jury's win over Diego.

Gomi vs Diego 2 would have been sweet to headline this card.

Love that gif of Gomi just taking that head kick and punt, then he calmly picks up the refs pencil? Chin of steel.

That's Shooto. They had a 10 count system if you got dropped like in boxing. -edit NM it was a 8 count system.

Had no idea Shooto did that at one point, the other guy could have got DQ'd for soccer kicking Gomi when he was down then, crazy.

I think late 2008 was when they got rid of the count along with strikes to the back of the head.

This matchup makes sense, a win over Gomi for Jury would be big and imo more meaningful than the Diego win while Gomi gets one last shot at making a run.
