I went back all the way to the 20th page and didn't see anyone who started a thread about movies. If there is one, just let this thread sink away into the abyss of thread history, but if not, this is something we can talk about. We've got one for every sport, music, and TV shows. So I figured might as well.

"The Visit" was good and was well received overall. Once he made return to more small scale lower budget thrillers that has been where he excelled recently.

I watched The Sixth Sense again the other day and thee really was not much to it.  They just wanted you to go back and see it again to spot the clues.

Need a movie to check out this weekend, check out "Logan Lucky." It's a pretty fun heist movie.

I  just finished watching The Blair Witch Project movie that started the whole found footage craze and boy what a crappy movie. I mean I understand that it was a film on a budget and they really couldn't show the monster (as they didn't have the resources for that considering the budget was all of 60k), but I mean come on. There was very few points in the movie that I was genuinely staring to get scared, but even then it was all vamping up to what is supposed to be the big scare which never ever came. The only one that legitimately delivered is when they reveal inside the wicker pod pieces of the captured guy's tongue, teeth, skin and hair. And even then, it just felt like nothing more than vamping. Which is sad because, despite the lack of background on the main characters, the actors did a great job with their characters. Maybe it's because it's dated, but I just don't get how this was scary. Then again, I don't like the film that would copy this, paranormal activity, at all either.

Blair Witch Project at the time of release was some game-changing ****. But nowadays it is absolutely an ass movie.

I watched this movie again a few years back, and at the time no longer being a young kid, I looked at it very differently. To me, there are so many things that indicate that the "Blair Witch" in the movie was never actually legit. A lot of things are there that led me to believe that the two guys in the movie just wanted to kill the girl, so that's what happens at the end of the movie. Come to find out that this is actually a very popular theory. So I won't pretend me thinking that is some groundbreaking ****. But when I kind of came to this conclusion in my head, I didn't know about the previous 'theories' people had online.

The Film Theorists did a video on it last year. So I'll just link that rather than sit here and try to explain why I (and many other people) seem to think this way about the movie. Worth a watch, especially if you've just watched the movie. Could change your perspective.

The Blair Witch did start the found footage craze but it was not really anything new. It was just the one to get the most publicity. I remember seeing it a theater and it didn't even fit the widescreen. As for the theory that they were trying to kill the girl, I just think people are trying to make stuff up for attention. The same thing happens with the Shining and all the many theories in that.
The movie that really started the craze with the small budget idea was Halloween which made a hundred times over it's budget.

The Blair Witch Project wasn't the first found footage movie, to my knowledge that would be Cannibal Holocaust.

I remember that was unique about the BWP was that it was the first to do a viral marketing campaign, using the internet and a "documentary" that was on SciFi called Curse of the Blair Witch.

OldmanGloom, you are right.  it just started the craze, though.  It is the same as to how American Pie started the grossout teenage craze on the late 90s/ early 2000s.

The only thing really great about the "Blair Witch Project" was its marketing. They convinced enough of the audience that it was actually real found footage of college students which helped at an extra level of terror and tension for many viewers. I didn't see it until it was already on VHS and I never liked it and thought the whole movie was just stupid people running around and screaming. That's also why whenever people try to duplicate it like they did with the recent "Blair Witch" despite being a better constructed film with more interesting concepts it it still winds up being ****, because in reality the original was ****.

Now if you want to actually watch a good movie I say check out "Wind River" it stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen and is written by the same guy who wrote "Sicario" and "Hell or Highwater." It's a great crime thriller.

My Brother said Wind River was pretty good. There are hardly any good movies this day as everything is a retread or adaptation.

Speaking of conspiracies with movies, there have been a few that I have read about over the last few days. One is that Ferris Bueller's Day Off is all within Cameron's head. He just wants to gain strength to finally stand up to his dad. This I seriously doubt but was interesting . Another is that Sandy in Grease is actually dead for most of the movie and it is her going up to the heaven at the very end while they are in the car.

I just watched a Netflix documentary called "Icarus" which is an interesting look at the Russian Olympic doping scandal. It is shocking the lengths they had to go to in order to cheat. It's a film that started as one thing, a biker trying to show lack of proper testing in cycling and how proper PED cycling can beat the test, and evolved into another as it went along. I was very intriguing.

Saw "It" last Friday. It's very good. Has some fantastic creepy imagery, some tension, and also a fun adventure/coming of age story like "Stand By Me," "Super 8," and "Goonies."

Saw It and it was good but not great. I thought Tom Curry was better as Pennywise. Also the kids were more believable. Ben's character looked like he was 10 and most of the others did not look their age either.
