Then the UFC dropped him down to $15K per fight to show and another $15K to win.
That means, even if he wins his fights, he receives $70K less per fight.
What should Nate do? Should he simply fight his best and when his contract runs out, demand his salary be restored to his former $50K or not sign? That is what I would recommend if I were his manager or agent.
Here is some background a to how and why he got his salary cut.

Nate's manager, Mike Kogan said, "Cause I suck as a manager."
Is the UFC taking unfair advantage of Nate? Is Nate being screwed financially by the UFC?
If you think he is, up-vote this post. If you think Nate is not being taken advantage of, down-vote this post.

His negotiations were during his title fight training camp, he didn't know for sure he was facing Benson for sure until a week or two before the fight. Nick talks about it in an interview, says it was Nate's worst camp ever. Didn't want to spring big money on training partners not sure if he'd fight, so he went through the camp worried with no extra expenses to the camp.
A title fight would be a way to coerce a signing where threatening to walk away doesn't work.

I think that issues like the one between nate and the ufc are a real problem.
ive said many times that I think the best thing for mma is for there to be one dominant orginzation so that there is one champ and one ladder to climb.
Its no good when theres several champs, no one knows who's the best, and each promoter can do whatever they want. kind like how boxing is.
So the ufc needs to make sure they are as fair as they can be to the fighter, but also the fighters need to respect and support the ufc to ensure that people can always recognize its champ as the best. if both parties try not to take advantage of the other the whole thing should stay strong

the biggest problem I think is the UFC trying to get away with a little too much. if they want to remain the dominant organization they absolutely MUST have all the top fighters. I think everyone can agree that it is not good for the sport as whole for all the fighters to be in separate organizations avoiding each other. they cant just let fighters leave because of money if they are top notch fighters. Nate Diaz is a funny story though because he's already fought for the title and has lost since then. so it wouldn't destroy the prestige of the UFC if he was cut but it would not be good. The situation with his training partner Gilbert Melendez was a different though because many people think he won the belt and he is at the very top of the division. they cant let him leave without getting his fair shot at fighting and winning or then you cant be sure that the UFC has the most dominant lightweight in the world. The UFC has done a decent job with letting all the best fighters get a shot to be the best except for one obvious case, that they should try to avoid repeating at all case.
that mistake would be fedor emilianenko. (Im still prayin they can get him in there at least once)

The fighters don't owe it the sport or the UFC to keep the UFC the one dominant organization. It's 100% on the UFC.
Like all major sports, the UFC revenue should be split around 50/50 between the organization and the fighters.

"My contract is all f*cked up. I want to be paid like these other fighters" -- He signed that exact contract A MONTH AGO!!! If it's such a ****** contract, why did he sign?????
"I don't talk to the UFC. No one calls me. I'm not going to call them begging." -- Well, they kinda called him to negotiate his new contract, why should they be calling him again other than to offer him a fight (which he claims he'll turn down anyway because he isn't being paid enough, which apparently wasn't the case A ******* MONTH AGO - I guess he had one of those lunches with his training partners where they talked business and ****, got him thinking)?? What does he expect them to do? Call him up every month to see if he's still happy with his contract? See one of his "more money" tweets and rush to the phone?? He's not happy, he should pick up the phone.
"I take every fight" -- Except for the Khabib fight, which he apparently isn't being paid enough to take.
"Then they tweeted out that I turned down the fight, and I never turned down the fight." -- Er, that^ is called turning down a fight.
"They tried to do me dirty." -- By offering him the exact amount that's written in his contract that he signed A ******* MONTH AGO!!!
"If I can get released, I can go fight somewhere and make some money" -- Who the ****'s going to pay him more (or at least much more) than 60k/60k?????
"I'm sure Arianny Celeste, Brittney Palmer, Joe Rogan, Bruce Buffer, probably you, everybody makes more money than I do" -- From the UFC - Hell no. But every one of those names most likely has WAY more money than Diaz because all of them don't rely on UFC pay as their main income. If Buffer, Arianny and Brittany can bank on UFC recognition to make ****loads of money so can ******* Nate Diaz.
"I think I'm the biggest draw in the lightweight division" - He's up there, but he's not the biggest, imo.
Dude needs to grow up.
Yeah, UFC pay sucks, but they're not the reason he's broke. They're definitely not the reason he owes the IRS money and with his pay over his UFC years with fight night bonuses (which he won't even get close to those amounts anywhere else) and using his popularity to generate more business (you think GSP's millions are from his fighting pay? Koscheck's cars?) he could've been pretty well off even if not a millionaire.
Stop blaming the world for you being a moron, Nate. Man up, get some dude on the payroll that knows how to manage money and use a successful and popular fighter's name to generate steady income and shut the **** up! Or, alternatively, don't sign a contract that you're gonna whine about ONE MONTH LATER!!!

"I can't tell you what my brother and Gil make, but I can tell you that they signed a contract for more than I get paid to headline and win a fight, and that's bullsh*t."
Nick and Gil got 6 figures just for SIGNING, that's pretty good money for, let's all admit it, a FRINGE and NICHE sport like MMA. I will slap the next person who ******* about fighter pay, go get your ******' shine boxes out for a better cause.

I almost felt bad about the 15k/15k rumors if they were true but now that they are proven false this is just crazy stupid.
