How the **** do you go from Carlos Condit to Erick Silva?

Easy.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that Matt Brown called them up and said "I'm back and want to get in there" and also we know they were fishing for a headliner for UFN 40.

Now here are the guys I have ranked above Erick Silva:

Johny Hendricks - Has a fight
Carlos Condit - Has a fight
Robbie Lawler - Has a fight
Rory MacDonald - Just fought
Jake Ellenberger - Has a fight
Jake Shields - Has a fight
Demian Maia - Just fought
Dong-Hyun Kim - Just fought
Hector Lombard - Has a fight
Tyron Woodley - Has a fight
Tarec Saffiedine - Has a fight
Martin Kampmann - Who the **** knows what's going on with him
Josh Koscheck - Who the **** knows what's going on with him
Nate Marquardt - Who the **** knows what's going on with him
Mike Pyle - Just fought
Rick Story - Not main event worthy

Since the UFC are trying to get both Brown and Silva to main event worthy status because they're both exciting and have a loyal and growing fanbase and Erick Silva keeps losing so you need to catch him on a win to do so -- e voilà! There you have it in a nutshell.

Silva's hot. Brown's back from injury and you don't want him to cool down either, you need a fight night main event. Easy-peasy-Japanesey.

You may argue or add another name above Silva in the ranking, but none of them will be so solid as to call this such an atrocious matchup.

For both of them this is the first main event. Matt Brown's going from Condit as co-main to fronting a card. Many fighters see that as an upgrade, especially if it's a more winnable fight them (which this most definitely is).

You keep looking at each matchup as a sole instance. There's a whole spider web of **** to take into consideration putting these cards together and every now and then, ranking isn't the main consideration, especially when a fighter's been injured and got out of sync with his division's time table. He needs to catch up so that he can then be matched up with the rest of the fighters in his area in the rankings or stay inactive until they all finish their fights. If you were Matt Brown, which one of these options would you take?

Plus Matt Brown is from Ohio and that's where the card is being held. I'm sure he wanted to headline this card.

@unbeknownst, totally ... I thought about that too, but couldn't be assed to see where he's from :)

Not just the state even, Matt's home town is Cincinnati where the card is happening.

I see this going 1 of 2 ways

1) Silva via KO
2) Brown via Decision

I'd put my money on Brown

I'm not sure who will win, but someone is getting smashed, and it won't take very long.

matt brown should get a title shot before someone like condit. it shouldnt go by popularity. he has 6 wins in a row , its only fair he should get his shot. not condit with one win as of right now

Most of the things that Erick is known for, the same is true for Matt.

Erick is tenacious and just keeps on coming.  Identical MO for Matt.

Erick has very good power and can knock you out with one punch.  The same is true of Matt, but Matt normally uses combinations.

Erick likes to use Muay Thai with punches and knees to the head and upper body.  Same for Matt.

I expect this to be a very good, entertaining brawl, and I hope whoever wins gets a higher ranked opponent.  In fact, I wish them both a higher ranked opponent.

Wonder why Rich didn't take a fight on this card. He didn't fight too long ago.

Rich vs Lil Nog retirement fight for the loser or both would have been a nice way to go.

Either Erick by first round Finish or Brown finishes him in the second or third by knockout. Erick can definitely submit Brown though. I'll side with Brown 2nd round KO but.this is a kill or be killed fight.
