Prediction: wrong Shields   wrong Submission   wrong Round 2

I think because Shields got beaten by GSP, people are severely under-estimating him.  Take a look at the guy's resume of opponent's he has beaten, and most of them he had beaten decisively.  Martin Kampmann, Dan Henderson, Jason Miller, Robbie Lawler, Paul Daley, Nick Thompson, Mike Pyle, Renato Verissimo, Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, Hayato Sakurai.  That's a HELL of a list!  Who has Ellenberger beaten?  Shields is the real deal, and he's going to submit Ellenberger.

He didn't exactly look great in the Kampmann fight either.  I agree that people are underestimating him though.

I still think he lost the Kampmann fight but whatever. Shields striking is garbage but his ground game is probably top 5 out of everybody and hes so good at getting it to the ground its hard to beat him. If Ellenberger can keep it on the feet he will win easily imo. I just dont think he can keep it on the feet

I want to know who picked Ellenberger by sub? I think you have a better chance of winning the lottery

Shields' problem is, he doesn't have very impressive striking.  However, his Jiu-Jitsu is some of the best you'll see in the cage.  Shields is a tough guy to hurt, so I think he'll get Ellenberger down way before Ellenberger has the ability to knock him out.  Once this fight hits the mat, it's a wrap, no pun intended.

I'm going Juggernaut here. The guy is no joke, still seems to be improving. I thought he beat Carlos Condit. He also survived a crazy first round against a BJJ wizard in Rocha. Shields is a different style of grappler and could cause some problems. But I like Ellenberger as the more athletic, natural fighter standing up and think he can avoid being put on his back. As for Jake Shields's father passing away, it's tragic news and it may have impacted his focus.

I'm pretty surprised this fight turned out the way it did. I thought it was going to be a back and forth battle. Not so much!

I really counted Ellenberger out of this fight. Even if I had an inkling he was going to win, I didn't think that he would finish Shields, and definitely not in the first round. Did anybody predict that finish? Could anybody?

told u guys .. I was pretty confident on Jonathan Brookins .. I believe that fight should of been a split decision in his favour or a Draw ..

I just can't see how Koch won .. given that he was controlled .. and brookins pushed the pace and controlled him and landed some pretty good elbows .. I'm sorry .. for all I know I could be being bias .. but I really did think Brookins won

but ellenberger .. I knew he would DESTROY shields .. shields just been a lucky fighter in my opinion

It really shows the difference between Not-UFC and UFC, Jake was undefeated for years but he's 1-2 in the UFC and IMO he should be 0-3, he has foughten top competition in UFC though.

@swickotine, I agree man. The level of competition is just higher in the UFC. SF has some really good fighters, but the guys on the UFC roster are just animals.

@ Swickotine - You hit the nail right on the head. Fighters like Nick Diaz and Jake Shields have been able to remain undefeated for some serious win streaks because they haven't fought in the UFC against the UFC's top fighters. I'm not a real big Shields fan, but in his defense, he has fought some very tough opposition. It's not like he was brought along strategically or given "gimmee opponents"  to bring him along or make him seem better than what he truly is. Martin Kampmann and Jake Ellenberger are very tough fights for anybody at 170, then you factor in a recent loss to GSP, and the recent loss of his father. Jake Shields has had a tough year this year. The fact that Shields still showed up to fight has really boosted my respect for him as a competitor, a fighter, and as a person. Unfortunately, he is going to drop considerably in my rankings. I hope to see him bounce back from this loss.
