Seriously, when I saw this on ESPN. I could not believe it. But I am excited to see how this turns out. I think GSP will comeback in over a year and a half. Good luck sir. See ya later GSP.

i'm a bit mad about him retiring but i'm very happy about the change of pace it will bring without Georges as champion.

I bet when he comesback he will receive an automatic title shot, and one of the highs PPV ratings for his return event.

GSP has always been talking about retiring early, so it's not a surprise. However, he had made an announcement that he was very disappointed with the "lack of support" from UFC prior to the Hendricks fight back in early October.

I'm personally not a fan of people retiring with the belt. I feel the champ should be dethroned before retiring. Many have dedicated a great portion of their life to being the guy who beats him... and it's unfortunate that we may never see that.

Whatever his reasoning is, as I'm sure there are many, I think for health/mental purposes it was the best move for GSP. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown... and his mind was definitely not straight after that fight.

But now we get to see Lawler vs. Hendricks for the belt. So everything is okay.

I don't see anything wrong with going out on top, it was definitely the best move for himself as a person and as a fighter imo

@OldNick: So you just want every champ to lose at the end of their reign ... that's exactly what more fighters should try to avoid.

I am actually glad to see GSP step away for a while. He has taken quite a bit of damage in his last few fights so I think he needs the break. Plus I am so pumped to see the future match ups in store for the WW division.

For Dana White to have Hendricks fight Lawler for the vacant title is complete ********!

It is absolutely unfair to the rest of the WWs.

They need to have a tournament-style elimination process and include Hendricks, Condit, Shields, Maia, Kim, MacDonald, Lawler, Brown & Lombard.

When will White's act end?  Where does the arrogance stop?

So what you're saying is you wouldn't include Hendricks in said tournament?  Or are you suggesting he gets to wait for the winner, meaning more than a year layoff and no WW champ for that timeframe?  You crazy @Bill.

No, of course Hendricks must be included in a tournament.  I omitted him by mistake.

Lawler/Shields 2...Hendricks/Condit 2...winner fights for the belt..but that's just my opinion. Since Brown is out with an injury, Condits still good to go im sure.

But if Dana wants to skip a tournament and crown a new champion right away...Hendricks vs. Lawler or Hendricks vs. Condit 2 considering their first fight was close as ****. Gotta put Jake Shields in that mix though too.

Either way, as much fun as it would be, the days of the UFC doing a tournament for an established weight class are long gone.  They won't wait to fill a vacant belt and pretty much all the fighters you listed will have an opportunity at a title shot by winning fights.  Business as usual.

No way the UFC is making a WW tournament, it would take forever and they would loose PPV money without WW title fights, they will either match contender No 1 and 2 or put Hendricks Vs the winner of 2 vs 3

I agree he is deffinetly gonna go down as one of the best, but he quit at a really ****** time, right after fighting someone that actually did damage on him, finally...But it kinda makes him look like a *****.

We're not nuts I just think he retired after a controversial fight, whether he planned on retiring either way doesn't matter. It looks shady and makes it seem to me like he can't handle getting beat up in a long grueling fight. This is the first time in a long time hes been pushed like that. I don't know, its just not the "cleanest" way to go out. I hope he comes back when he figures his personal **** out so we can see him retire the right way.

There is never going to be a "clean time" to hang them up if he is still champ. There is always going to be some guy that is climing back up who wants a rematch or some new contender that everyone wants to see go for the belt. The WW division is too stacked for him to ever properly clean it out without there being an argument for someone to get a shot.
