I agree, most of the time, fighters know if they can beat training partners in a real fight. Munoz didnt think he could win, and you could see it in his eyes. No disrespect to Munoz, but if he couldnt get the takedown, his striking is too one dimensional to beat Machida on the feet.

I thought that the fact that "Machida = boring fights" was common knownledge... Come on. You know it is true.

I can say he is "technical" and "unique" as much as I want, and that won't change the fact that his fights are really ******* boring. I tend to like cautious fighters that are able to implement solid gameplans (for an example, I love watching GSP fight) but unless a flashy knockout happens, Lyoto's fights are usually devoid of interesting stuff.

Many times over in the past, I have found Machida's fighting style to be boring and uneventful, but then I remembered my oldest son studied karate. Karate is primarily defense. The point of karate is to hit and not get hit. Only take the shot when it is available. It was my wife that pointed this out to me. Now you take somebody like Machida, who has studied this style of fighting basically since he was old enough to walk. I think it's pretty safe to say that this style of fighting is "second nature" for The Dragon.

With all that said, I don't think that Machida is boring, nor does he run away. He is an elusive technical fighter who's primary style of fighting is to hit and not get hit, but when he hits or engages, he's aiming to end the fight with one shot. Another reason for picking and choosing his shots, is to conserve energy for 3-5 rounds. Now many fighters who have this "hit and not get hit" style usually bore the **** out of me and frustrate me to no end, but with Machida, I think I put up with it because I know that he's not just trying to outpoint his opponent. He is actually looking for the finish, but he wants to absorb as minimal damage as possible in the process.

@Jay: True that. He's always looking for the finish. Sometimes the finish just never presents itself. He'd have quite an impressive streak going without the BS loss to Davis.

Skell's got it right on. Look at Machida's last few fights where he didn't get the finish

Davis, Jones- Never been finished
Rampage, Shogun, Hendo- Incredibly difficult to put away

Even Jon Jones couldn't put Rampage and Shogun away very easily. He hit Shogun with everything but the kitchen sink and it took almost 3 rounds to break his will and Jones didn't get Rampage until he started to gas. Plus, if the Rampage fight was a 3 rounder like it was with Machida, that would have been a decision as well. Very likely that if Lyoto had a 4th round with Rampage, it could have been a different story because Machida had all the momentum

I scored both the Phil Davis and Rampage fights for Machida. I think the only decision Machida was gifted was the first Shogun fight.

His only clear defeats were to Jones and Shogun (twice). He's a beast.

KTFO's over Rashad Evans, Ryan Bader, Thiago Silva, Randy Couture and now Mark Munoz. BEAST!

Davis not being finished is a terrible excuse. if Machida is clearly better then Phil(which has already been proven as false) then he would have finished it. Rashad had never been finished or even lost prior to his fight with Machida..

The fact is, Machida never tried to finish, he tried to point fight which is a huge mistake against a wrestler since it's been proven time and time again that takedowns mean more then anything.

That's great logic right there...

Well Rosi vs Andrade wasn't much of a fight...Just a onesided being not all that compelling.
