I had a few people tell me to post a thread here on Tapology about the MMA Prospects Report that I am currently running on my own site. I've tried to follow in the footsteps of Leland Roling and Smoogy from BE, who ran their Scouting Report in 2011 and 2012. They decided to not do a 2013 edition, so I took a stab at it.

Anyways, you can read more about it in the link, but I profile 10 fighters from each major weight class, 80 fighters in all. Thus far, I have completed Flyweight and Bantamweight, and am at the midway point of Featherweight.

I realize my site is small beans, but I am hoping my Prospects Report gets its fair share of readers. If you end up liking the coverage and report, please pass on the word.

Here is the link to the Report:
http://rankingmma.com/mma-prospects-report-2013/

8. Ali Bagautinov (recently signed w/UFC)

I know, I struggled with that as well. Those in the know, are aware that Bibiano is a world class talent. To the general MMA audience though, Bibiano is still virtually unknown.

You'll read in his profile, that I made it a point to say why Bibiano ended up being included in the report.

Basically, he met every parameter for inclusion:
Never fought in the UFC
Never fought in PRIDE
Never fought in a Bellator tournament
Never fought in Strikeforce

I know he fought for Dream and now One FC, but in the end, I think we can somewhat agree that both those promotions were/are more like fairly big regional shows such as KSW, M-1, or Sengoku, rather than the UFC, PRIDE, Strikeforce, etc.

Point taken though, I struggled with it as well.

yeah, i could see including him under those parameters . I like how you have Henry Cujedo #1  Got to love the Arizona wrestlers . wish UFC would have got Bubba Jenkins before he got discovered.

Nice list. Not sure if Montague is a prospect, but he is younger than i thought he was. Needs to be in the UFC.

I didn't include age as a qualification. I would bet that only 3 out of 10 MMA fans even know who Mamoru is. The reason he made the report despite being on the brink of retirement was his long legacy as one of the top Flyweights in the world.

He probably wouldn't have made the report after his recent loss to Yamagami, but his fight with Montague was actually pretty competitive. Considering, Montague is arguably a Top 10 fighter in his weight class, gave me hope Mamoru still had a chance at making the UFC. After the loss to Yamagami though, forget about it.

Why would Montague not be a prospect? He's getting paid peanuts to fight in small shows. The majority of fans still don't know who he is. He's never fought in the UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, etc.

Yes, he was the TPF champion, but only hardcore MMA fans know this kind of stuff.

Montague is definitely still a prospect who deserves to be in the UFC. Right now he would be a top five fighter.

Why not have Montague vs. Sampo in the UFC?

That would be pretty awesome to see. what about the Ali Bagutinov guy fight Sergio Pettis in the UFC and the Winner of Sampo vs. Montague gets the winner of Bagutinov vs. Pettis. Winner of that fight gets John Lineker. Winner of that fight Gets John Dodson, Joseph Benavidez, or John Moraga depending on outcome of title picture

having Cejudo at #1 is kind of ridiculous he has beena  can crusher so far. I understand he has a big hype train, but I want to see him face some actual competition.

The fact Anthony Birchak is not listed in your BW rankings is also questionable.

Birchak made the honorable mentions list. The loss to Jorge Clay hurt him. Clay is nearly 40 years old and he was still able to beat Birchak. I saw the fight and I can tell you right now he is a step behind everyone else I listed on my Top 10 list.

The reason Cejudo is ranked #1 is because of his potential. You must not have taken the time to read through the FAQ section. If the prospects were ranked purely off who beat who, Cejudo would not be in the Top 10, but we are not talking about regular type of rankings, we are talking about prospect rankings, which should ultimately come down to their future potential.

You can't tell me guys like Steve Mocco, Bubba Jenkins, and Cejudo don't deserve to be ranked just because they haven't fought anybody. We've seen what world class wrestlers have done in this sport.

Given your reasoning of your own list, why on earth is Mamoru Yamaguchi anywhere near it may I ask? Prospects are individuals who have yet to establish themselves within their respective divisions yet obviously possess more than enough talent to do so. Mamoru Yamaguchi, Bibiano Fernandes and even Darrell Montague to a slight extent don't fit the bill. Whether you want to argue the other two fighters, Bibiano is certainly someone who is very much established regardless of how much the everyday MMA fan knows about him if you ask me.

Having said that I do like your list, especially Dileno Lopes and Chris Gruetzemacher who are both beasts.

Potential doesn't mean ****. I got a bantamweight in Washington that I am sure would beat the brakes off Henry Cejudo. Scott MacDonald trains at Pancration under Matt Hume and is Mighty Mouse's main training partner. Please explain to me how he is not on your list?

A fight nearly 2 years ago is what determined whether Birchak is a top 10 prospect, lol. This isn't a prospect list it's a popularity contest. Try again bozo.

Oh and no I didn't waste my to reading your FAQ bologna. Which isn't even listed on here. I looked at your list and made some observations.

My sister would look like a prospect if she fought Cejudo's opponents with a combined record of roughly 7-22, lol.
