dana's latest excuse for why they haven't made silva/gsp is that the timing isn't right, so now they both have a fight within a couple months of each other

don't get me wrong i don't mean to look pass okami or diaz, but i don't really give either one of them a chance but i think okami probably has a slightly better chance than diaz.

but mainly if gsp beats diaz, theres no one left for him to fight at 170

For the sake of mma and the UFC this fight has got to happen after GSP dismantles Diaz.

That is my feeling as well.

The UFC is going to hype Diaz up as much as they can to make him seem like the biggest threat GSP has ever faced. Then once he is beaten GSP will be more or less pushed towards Silva.

Honestly I'm not sure what the UFC is looking for.  I'm not sure if they really want to see GSP fight Silva.

And besides curiosity, I'm not really sure I want to see  the fight either.  GSP is a welterweight... it's not really fair to push him up to middleweight.

I would like to see the fight, and I think Silva is going to retire soon if he does not fight against GSP.

The perfect scenario for the UFC would be for GSP to come up and destroy Silva, or for Silva to move to LHW and fight up there.

When Dana White first said that the super fight could happen, I instantly got a chub. Later that night I thought about it and got super bummed as I realised that, that was a huge IF. I expected that Silva was going to beat Belfort and GSP would beat Sheilds, but knew logically that they where both fighting worth opponents with decent chances of pulling off the upset, and that either/both GSP and Silva could walk away from the fight with a lengthy injury. Neither of those happened of course and the UFC found marketable contenders for both champions to face, yet still toy with the idea of the super fight. Again I think Silva will beat Okhami and GSP will beat Diaz yet I still think the fight won't go down. If either fighter loses or gets injured it is extremely unlikely that UFC will put two titles on hold for a lengthy or even some what lengthy injury layoff.

personally i'm not in favor of seeing this fight unless gsp really wants the fight. i don't think that just because he dominates everyone at 170 that he should have to go up in weight.....i just think thats what they're setting up, and i do see dana pushing for that to happen because a lot of casual fans want to see that fight

I don't want this fight honestly, because afterwards all we're gonna hear is how Silva was too big for GSP and its a LHW fighting a WW or Silva is starting to decline with age and his skills aren't what they used to be and in his prime he would have destroyed GSP...

Personally I would much rather see them fight people in their own weight class than each other.

@soccerkick yeah I hear ya. People will make excuses for either one. Although Silva out of his prime is very questionable. His age might lead you to believe that but his ability has not declined one bit. There is no denying Silva is a way bigger guy then GSP but if GSP takes the fight then he can't nor won't make any excuses if he loses.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with soccerkick. This fight is much like the same as Marvin Hagler vs. Sugar Ray Leonard. What happens when the fight is over? What would be the excuses if Anderson beat GSP? What would the excuses be if GSP beat Anderson? This fight should've happened 2 years ago.

Asking GSP to fight Silva is like asking Frankie Edgar to move up to welterweight and fight Georges. There is such a big size difference. I want this fight to happen so bad but it's not all that realistic. Even Ed Soares said due to the huge size differential GSP would be at a big disadvantage. Best thing would be for both to stay in their respective weight classes and continue their legacies.

You are being foolish now. Frankie Edgar is a very small lightweight.
GSP on the other hand is a large Welterweight and would have no problem jumping up to 185.

Like Dana says, its a fantasy fight. Don't think it's gonna happen, Silva will prob not want this fight either, he has already said he has little intrest in Jon Jones, and has said he wants to retire. It would take a while for GSP to move up in weight the way he wants. I think somehow Sonnen will get back to fight Silva, they will keep finding people to throw at GSP, Shields broke his winning rounds streak, I think we could see him or (God forbid) Fitch again.

That fight should happen and GSP is finding every excuse for it not to happen.

Anderson doesn't want to fight Jones because they're friends, and Jones has a ton of potential fights that need to happen at 205. Rampage, Evans, Davis, Machida, and the Griffin/Rua winner are all interesting matchups. (I mentioned Rua as well because I think he was out of shape and if he looks good against Forrest, that's a fight I'd like to see)

Also, I'd love to see Fitch/GSP 2. Not as much as GSP/Silva or GSP/any middleweight, but as far as WW's go, it's by far the most competitive matchup.
