At flyweight, at least you're not losing a lot of PPV's if they start fighting each other over and over again and there are literally loads of good prospects out there.
But for heavyweights, seriously, who out there would you like to see instead of Cheick Kongo? He's still a good name that makes for a good heavyweight fight. And I don't even like the guy ...
Yeah, I get it, he's got a 70K show contract, but I doubt he's got more than 2 fights left on that contract, why not give him those fights and if he doesn't do anything spectacular, offer him a new contract cut in half (or even more), I guarantee you he takes it. Are you telling me the UFC can't spare another ~140K to keep him on the roster and then get him back later for half price?
It's not like Fitch where you knew that if he's successful you've got a "boring" contender on your hands who's already been beat by the champ and if he's not you've got an expensive, "boring" stinker. Kongo has the potential to KO at any fight and the division is already low on talent.
They've probably got a broader view of the master plan, but I don't get it.

I like that they gave Soa another chance but Stipe is gonna smash The Hulk, his best wins are Big Sexy and Sapp, he's already 35 and I actually don't see many guys losing to him of those remaining 25 UFC HW's. Maybe he could win against Dave Herman, Nandor Guilmino or Geronimo Dos Santos but that's about it I believe...

Also. Kongo was not cut. Nelson was the last fight on his contract. But it isn't likely the UFC will be interested in giving him another.
