because a flash in the pan at the UFC means you were one of the elite of the elite. Even without long-term job security, being an ex-ufc fighter makes your career better wherever else you are.

I can see the UFC's arguement for cutting every fighter on the list... except Fitch!!
Perhaps this was more Fitch's call than the UFCs?
With his talks of financial struggles... maybe Bellator is a better option for him - it would be a long, long time now before he would get another shot at the UFC WW belt.
