Good luck to him.  He was a fine champion, a great role model, and an articulate spokes-person.

He gave us many wonderful fights and had a great impact on MMA, all to the good.  Never understood those who disliked him.

Never really liked the guy, but he definitely made his impact on the sport and is very deserving of HOF status and UFC front office future ...

I guess now's as good a time as ever to tip my hat in respect to a monstrous career.

It was people like him, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz who helped so much to build the UFC into what it is today.

It's too easy to forget the past.  But we wouldn't be where we are without them.

Let's not forget BJ Penn, Bill.

Oh, and if you read his autobiography you might change your mind about him being a role model. I never liked the guy but his picture is in my home gym because a former training partner of mine used to go to Matt's school. I respect him for what he did for the UFC but I never thought he should have been champ after the contraversy with Carlos Newton (one of my top ten all time favorite fighters), or the totally bogus headbutt win over Gil Castillo. Didn't really think much more about him when he celebrated GSP getting Serra'd. Still, in the long run he was great for the sport so I can overlook any personality flaws I perceive him as having.

I think the title they gave him is misplaced. I don't care for the guy. But I hope he does well for himself.

Hughes was one of the first fighters that really got me into the sport. While the more I found out about him as a person, the less I liked him, no one can deny his legacy as a fighter.

I never liked Matt Hughes, but best of luck to him. He gave us some great fights over the years, his second fight with Trigg will always be one of my personal favorites.

I have to agree with most of the guys here. I disliked him for the Carlos Newton botched win, also, he only beat BJ because BJ injured himself beating on Hughes. That was just on a professional level, then I met him at a meet and greet, and what a ********.

Maybe he did bring in some folks to the sport, but I will never give him his due as a pro. He's like a more skilled, welterweight Brock Lesnar.

Yeah, Matt Hughes... I actually liked him better before I read his book.

I think most of it has to do with people not being familiar with the type of culture and lifestyle he grew up and lives in. Though on TUF he did come off as bit of a ****** but I have met him several times and hes pretty cool
