If this fight goes down which I think it's only a matter of time who will win it?

I like both guys but I see Chael grinding out a decision regardless what weight this fight happens at.

If MMA fans were asked if they would have liked to have seen Anderson Silva fight at LHW for his career or at MW, they would have preferred to have seen him face off against the better competition.

Obviously.  To those who don't agree, you don't know anything about MMA, despite what you believe.

I offered a brief menu of others who might well have had better careers at LHW.  Most fought at that weight for parts of their careers.  So, I'm opining that they erred in dropping down to fight smaller opponents.

Frank Shamrock, Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson, Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva, Phil Baroni & Anthony Johnson.

I believe that all of these except Silva and Johnson actually began their MMA careers at LHW, but I could be wrong on Shamrock and Baroni.

I think we ought to really unpack and deeply analyze the "What if Phil Baroni fought his career at 205" concept. That seems like the topic that will get us the most bang for our buck.

@Gregory  Can you explain how Anderson Silva's career was better because he fought less quality competition than if he had fought at LHW?

And how his fighting less quality competition was better for the sport?

Can you break that down for the house, exactly?

seems true to his rep, not wanting a super fight with Jones, dodging Weidmen.  Just saying the guys he has beat at 205 aren't the cream of the crop at the time he beat them, if they ever were.

@Unpunished15

What are you talking about? You do realize when he fought Forrest he was 1 fight removed from the title (ranked in the top 3 at LHW) and when he fought Bonnar, Bonnar was on the best winning streak of his UFC career by far and Anderson took the fight on short notice.

@Franklin880088 truth Bonnar had a win streak, but was on the verge of retirement, & on roids, Forrest not what anyone would consider a dominate champ, he beat Rampage with leg kicks.  When he takes a fight with Evans or Jones then we shall speak of this again, but it's not like he took out Chuck in his prime.  There are reasons there are weight classes, but not a good reason for AS to stay in a weight class he's wrecking & not challenge himself.

So Vitor thinks he should get a rematch with Jones, and makes his case by talking **** about Sonnen.

That is pure gold. Especially after Vitor said he got knocked out badly by Silva and then got a shot at Jones.
I know someone else that happened to as well.

Anderson Silva is an awesomely great fighter.  Since he opted to fight at MW, there has not been a pool of UFC MW fighters to give him a good fight, except Chael.

So, I suggest the sport might have been better if he had opted to fight a better class of fighters, and I am somehow disrespectful???  How so?

Before he starts to decline, he might gift the sport with a better set of fights if he opted to fight people somewhat closer to his own level.  Before it's too late.

And yes, my friends, he would have had a better career if he had had better fights.  A higher grade of competition.  What so heretical and blasphemous about that?  As things are now, the rest of his career will bore me to tears, as the MW division can not give him a good fight.  And the sport is the poorer for it.  And so are we sports fans.

It's as if the winners of the National League and American Leagues refused to play the World Series.

Chael is a genius, Vitor never challenged him. Yet Chael accepted his challenge .. then when or if Vitor says something about wanting to fight Jones, Sonnen can use the 'coward' card to piss off another Brazilian. GOLD.

Also didn't Vitor say something about Anderson kicking Chaels ass??

I'm not interested in this fight.

I'd rather watch Chael vs Davis if he remains @ LHW or Chael vs Jacare if he returns to MW.
I think those would be more competitive and meaningful matches than Sonnen-Belfort.

@Mike I´m not sure that Vitor was really looking to fight Jones again, I think he was calling out Chael, and the best way to do that is insulting Chael, I think Belofrt knows his days on the UFC are counted and just like Anderson he will start looking for big fights, and right now Chael sells big.
