I am confident Sanchez will beat Gomi my only question is how he will do it.

Diego's size will be the deciding factor. But if the Fireball Kid can keep it standing, he could very well win this. But we all know, Diego will try to take him down, even if it means 17 failed attempts.

Gomi is living off his past name and rep.  Since arriving in the UFC, he is 3-3.  Lost to Florian, Diaz and Guida.  In othter words, when he faces our better guys, he loses.  He beat Danzig, Miksuoka and Tyson Griffin.

Now he will graduate to a better grade of fighter in Diego.  His submission defense needs work.  Other legends failed to find success in the UFC.  Wanderlei Silva and Cro Cop come to mind.  Hector Lombard.  Jake Shields has never been the force in the UFC as he was in Strikeforce.  This is the Big Leagues.

Diego is well-tested, Gomi has yet to prove himself in our deep end.

Who knows what Diego has been up to or how motivated he is right now. He hasn't fought in forever it seems. If Sanchez comes into this fight fat like he has on several other occasions I think Gomi could take it. I think I will weight until the weigh ins to make my prediction.

@P4p

what?  Sanchez has always come in with great cardio. I am assuming you referring to his extra bulk when he fought at welter weight a few times. That was him trying to put on size, that wasent fat. That why he still had crazy cardio. Also it not even possible for sanchez to make light weight and be fat. So that seem very improbable.  If anything sanchez might fat stupid and try to stand and bang.  But the idea Sanchez will come into the fight out of shape is just very very unlikely.

Maybe fat was the wrong word to use. Let's go with "thick" that would be a better term to use. Any time Diego has come into a fight looking "thick" he's been terrible and took a huge beating. There has been fights where he looked lean and cut and still lost but looked a hell of a lot better doing it. I never said anything about his cardio. I just think if he has that "thick" body look at the weigh ins look for Gomi to get the upset.

I get what your saying. I think it be doubtful because I honestly think it might be impossible for him not the be prettyshredder when he cuts to light weight. I think it very hard for him to make light weight and he needs a very strict diet. If he looks thick he likely gunna miss weight.  Which i dont think he ever done.  He a huge light weight, I  don't think it be possible for him to have extra pounds and make weight.

Diego does appear to have extra thickness around his midriff.  He always has.  In the past, it didn't seem to affect his cardio.  He is one of those guys who never seems to gas.  Like Forrest, GSP and Diaz.

When Diego goes to LW, he might be well-advised to use a professional nutritionist to shed those extra baby pounds.  I hope he doesn't sacrifice any power or stamina.  His main asset has always been his aggressive fighting spirit.  He is like Marty Kampmann and the older Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar.  They just never quit, even when they were behind in the score.  They fought as hard from behind as from ahead.  They just gave it all.

Diego admitted that for a time, he lost his focus, drank too much, partied too much and under-trained for John Hathaway.  He claims he has regained his focus when he came back to Greg Jackson's.

this could potentially be a really good stand up war, but i think that Diego will take him to the ground and pound him out until he gets a late TKO stoppage or he wins the decision.

The fact that Diego only has 3 UFC wins via finish can be explained quite easily.  He has seldom been given soft fights where he was expected to win.  Most of his opponents are really hard to finish.

Nick Diaz, Karo Parisyan, Koscheck, Fitch, Fioravanti, Joe Stevenson, Clay Guida, BJ Penn, Paulo Thiago, Marty Kampmann and Jake Ellenberger.

His only 'soft' fights were: Brian Gassaway, John Alessio, Joe Riggs, Daivd Bielkheden and John Hathaway.

Sanchez does not have a lot of finish due to as people have said he level of opposition and that they all tended to be very hard people to finish.  His biggest issue though is he does not have a lot of power and not very technical striker. So he never really overwhealms people by out striking them.  And he does not have great power so even when connecting he normally does not drop his opponents.

Diego is also a rather smallish WW.  He seldom is as large as his opponents.  Now, at LW, that might change more in his favor.

Bad matchup for Gomi.   He'll have a very hard time dealing with Sanchez' pressure.  Gomi will break within 2 rounds.
