Prediction: correct Aldo   wrong KO/TKO   wrong Round 3

The more I look at this fight the more I'm beginning to lean towards a decision. Edgar has never been KOed, but at the same time I know ridiculous beatings take a toll. Eventually they catch up with the fighter and then it seems like every time they lose it's by an awful KO.

Edgar might be a little faster, probably not much. His power is going to be the same. The dude didn't really cut that much weight he just ate healthier. He even said he didn't skip a meal. His cardio is his big advantage. If Aldo tires, which I don't think he will considering the only fight he tired in was against Kampmann, then Edgar will have as much as 2 1/2 rounds to go to work. This fight is incredibly intriguing but if both come in at their absolute best, I would give it to Aldo.

@robwayne

We could also argue that Frankie defended his title against only 2 opponents. Where this will be Aldo's 7th title defense (3 in WEC, 3 in the UFC) against 7 different opponents.

Have you seen Penn fight lately? He's 1-4-1 since 2010. I really do think Aldo would beat Penn.

You're comparing defending a title in the fw division compared to the lw division? Frankie would run through anyone Aldo has ever fought. This is by far and away Aldo's toughest fight.....not Frankie's though.

@rob

Yes i believe Aldo would beat BJ Penn and rather badly.  And Aldo trains with Maynard, and Maynard has implied heavily that he can't even get Aldo down.

@p4p,

I disagree with the assertion this is not Edgar hardest fight. Edgar has yet to face a striker on the caliber of Aldo.  I really doubt Frankie could run through Kenny. He win, but it be far from running through him.

Just because I pick R2 KO/TKO doesn't mean I'm confident or think it's one-sided. Like a lot of other people have said, the conventional wisdom is that the longer this fight goes the better chance Edgar has. I can see it happening with a resilient Edgar wearing down Aldo and taking a decision. On the other hand we've seen Frankie get hurt really badly and be on the verge of being finished off quickly. He was fortunate to survive in those situations and if it happens again with Aldo, it could be lights out. Not particularly confident in that outcome, but I could see it so I might as well pick it.

Why and how is Aldo the favorite? Edgar should still be the champ at 155 and he's by far the best fighter Aldo's ever fought. Aldo will look good early, fade and Edgar will take over from there. The fact that Aldo's such a favorite is an insult to the future champ.

I don't mid the Aldo decision but no way it was 49-46...the judges just have it out for Frankie.

I disagree with the decision.  I think Edgar won a razor-close decision.

I give the first 2 rounds to Aldo, and the last 2 to Frankie.  I think Frankie tipped the fight starting in the 3rd.  By catching Aldo's kicks, Aldo stopped kicking.

Aldo said he's staying at FW.  What a sissy.  Kudos to Frankie for giving Aldo the fight of his life.  Frankie did much better than I thought he would or could.  I predicted Aldo to win but think Frankie upset him.

I think your crazy and Aldo clearly won that. It was close but Aldo was the clear victor.  Sorry so catching a kick makes Frankie the victor? What about all the times Aldo stuff Frankie?

I mean even looking at the stats that should be clear. Aldo landed 76 to Edgar 63 total strikes. Aldo also landed 65 head strikes to 24..............

Then if you look at take downs, Edgar landed 2 of 11.......and did nothing with the two he landed............

Sorry but Aldo clearly won that. It was a great fight and Edgar did the best agaisnt Aldo of anyone, but he clearly did not win.

Prediction: wrong Edgar   wrong Decision

I have to agree with both Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen on the Post-Fight show on Fuel TV where they both gave the fight to Edgar 48-47. The 3rd Round was the closest in my opinion, with Frankie landing the more significant strikes but with Aldo landing that kick.

They just brought up a graph on the show where they showed that Edgar did indeed land the more significant strikes in Round 3, 4, and 5. I feel like he won Octagon Control as well because he dictated the pace and flow of those 3 rounds as well.

I really don't see how 2 judges had it 49-46 for Aldo. Too bad these fights aren't judged by former fighters who have actually fought in the cage.
