Oh yes! I knew the UFC would send people over, but never imagined for a title shot! That would be a great fight!

really a perfect matchup for both guys...Miller probably wasn't getting the next title shot and Gil needed a top 10 guy

This would be quite interesting. Miller would give Gil a battle. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jim take it.

Miller would certainly be more of a test than Kawajiri was...both times.

This would make sense for both fighters. Miller is getting a little impatient waiting for his title shot. He probably deserves one, but he's at best third in line (after Maynard and the Pettis/Guida winner). Meanwhile, who's left in Strikeforce (or anywhere non-UFC for that matter) that would be interesting for Melendez? Alvarez? unfortunately, not gonna happen.

Would definitely be a great fight. And it's definitely the preferable option to having Miller sit around and wait for his UFC title shot, which might not have come until 2012, given the current schedule. Also, this way we don't have to see Miller take fights just to keep busy, which is basically all his fight with Shalorus was. Miller is clearly ready for a title shot, or a chance to fight the top of the division, so this is definitely the best option available.

It sure did. But now, if Jim wins... he is basically guaranteed a UFC title shot by 2012.

I picked against Jim Miller when he fought Charles Oliveira and Kamal Shalorus so I told myself not to pick against him ever again. This fight really changes things though. I think Gilbert could beat Miller both standing or by taking him down and pounding him out. I don't know if I'm just making the mistake of underestimating Jim Miller yet again though. Hope they make this fight happen.

Jim Miller is a beast, and a fight with Melendez would be amazing. Melendez could solidify all his number one talk with a decisive win, and Miller of course gets a title shot of some sort to hold him over until the UFC LW division gets sorted out.

It's funny because I've considered Miller one of the absolute best in the world for some time, even better than Melendez. After watching Melendez go to work on Kawajiri last week, however, I'm leaning toward the Strikeforce champ if this fight does materialize. One thing I'm very confident in is that Miller won't be finished. That might swing the bout in his favor in a five-rounder.

hope the rumor comes true, this fight could be spectacular. Melendez will probably gameplan for a standup fight. Better boxing and more power advantage. Use his wrestling to defend takedowns unless near the 4 minute mark where he might take miller down to secure the round. All in all a very simliar plan to how Gray beat miller.

I just don't know if Melendez has the strength or wrestling to get Miller down. And Miller has shown himself to be increasingly dangerous in the submission realm. I expect this one to mostly be contested on the feet, with Miller's superior boxing up against Melendez's superior speed and power.

Awesome if true, but to be honest, I don't see it happening (not to discredit your source or anything). Dana seemed very stern about no co-promotion, and of all the fights to make, this seems like a strange one. I hope it does happen though, i'd love to see it. I'd pick Miller for sure in that fight. He's better everywhere.

@minotauro, it's not really co-promotion anymore since Zuffa owns both orgs. UFC's logo wouldn't even need to be used so it's win/win for Zuffa regardless of the outcome.

Dana was very clear that there wouldn't be any fighters from Strikeforce coming over to the UFC until their Strikeforce contracts were over. But sending fighters the other direction from the UFC to Strikeforce I think is very likely.
