It would be nice to see Silva avenge a loss, but I don't think it's really necessary.

well, at least this fight will silence those who always talk about Okami not getting his title shot.

Well, given Okami's style, he has a clear-cut path to victory. It's just that the path in question is a five-round grinder. And a lot can happen in five rounds, especially when you're fighting Anderson Silva. Okami has a chance, but everything has to go right for him. More than likely, they won't.

I don't really think okami is much of a threat. His wrestling and top control isn't anywhere near chaels or hendos. Plus there's the fact that anderson hates okami for taking the easy way out last time and taking the dq

I do think Okami can win this fight. I don't think he will though. It's good that he's finally getting a title shot.

@Michigandolphin: I agree. I believe that his title shot is long overdue, but I don't think Okami will be the one to dethrone the Spider.

His shot is to Sonnen him imo. Its just a matter of surviving. I think he'll survive... for about 3 rounds.

With a perfectly executed grinding gameplan he could win this. But I think Silva catches him sometime inside the 25 minutes.

Okami does have the strength and wreslting to take down silva, but Anderson's guard is proven to be dangerous. Silva simply has more ways to win this fight, and in a 5 round afair, its simply a matter of time before The spider catches you.

@Piercedan Have to agree with that. Especially since I have made some terrifically terrible picks against Anderson over the years. For the life of me, I still don't know why I picked Forrest Griffin by decision over him. That one haunts me. I don't see how I could ever make a worse pick than that, but damn it I keep trying.

@slackbrian i picked the same thing!! I though forrest was big and durable enough to bully him against the cage ala randy! it happens and thats what makes mma so fun to watch.
My most upset pick against anderson was when he beat hendo. I was SURE hendo would be able to beat him. Then he got choked. I had a long standing bet going with my friend kerry for everytime anderson fought i bet on whoever he was fighting. kerry really likes anderson and anderson has always rubbed me the wrong way. Its never a big bet, more like a pint or a shot type bet.

Dana white will be nervous for this fight cause there's no way he wants okami's face and personality to be the champion of the 185 division.

Silva via flying heel hook. Seriously tho, I believe Silva takes this. Even if Okami gets him down a couple of times, he wont hurt anderson, and in a 5 rounder anderson should find enough opportunities to stun Yushin. Anyway, i prefer Silva-Okami over Silva-GSP. Okami is legit and there's still unfinished business between the two. Looking forwards, UFC rio shapes up to be a great card.

@platz i agree so much there. The reach advantage for silva against gsp is silly. Gsp wont be able to get in close enough to go for a takedown without getting tagged and i think that would do enough that even if it went to a dec gsp would lose.

I'm curious to see what the buy rate will be on an Anderson/Okami PPV...Don't really see that casual fan buying this unless the UFC really plays up that Okami was the last man to "beat" The Spider

I wish the UFC would drop the price of it's PPV events after a week or two. This would be a classic example of a UFC I'd buy at a cheaper rate later on. It's just not that important to me, but for the sake of watching what will probably be an entertaining showcase of Silva's skills, I'd buy it.

@soccerkick probably not great on PPV. But in Brazil this will probably do really well for them in helping to establish the UFC there for future events. I was talking to a guy who lives down in Brazil who said that after beating Belfort, Anderson Silva's popularity really took off.
