This would be an awesome fight!  This article does not seem to be based on any real rumor or evidence of a fight. But what a fight it would be, probably the best I can think of. I like it better than Penn vs Condit.

http://mmadiehards.com/features/anthony-johnson-at-this-point-i-have-no-choice-but-to-be-ready/

Johnson walked away from the fight with Hardy completely unscathed and is ready to get back in there immediately.

“I’m staying in shape and trying to keep my weight down,” Johnson explained.  “Right now I’m only about 200 pounds, but I’m full of water right now.  When I run I sweat so much it looks like I just got out of a swimming pool, so if they were to tell me I have a fight in a month I know I’d be ready.  The weight would be easy to come off, I’m good to go.”

Johnson does not have any indication who his next opponent will be, but he is a candidate to fill in for Jon Fitch against B.J. Penn.  Fitch recently injured himself in training and Penn is in need of partner for the dance.  “Rumble” may not be the first choice on everyone’s list , but he did just beat a guy in Hardy who is only two fights removed from a title fight.

“Hell, if I fight B.J. they’re for sure going to have to renegotiate my contract,” said Johnson.  “If the opportunity was presented, would I take a fight like that? Yeah.  I don’t say no to fights and I like to fight, if I’m winning or not, I still like to fight.  So yeah, I would take that fight.”

Fighting a guy like Penn is a big step up in competition and a lot of fighters are not at that level.  Johnson has showcased multiple impressive victories in the Octagon, but none of them were against a fighter that is of Penn’s caliber, yet the NJCAA champion feels like he has to be prepared for those higher caliber fighters.

“I feel like at this point I have no choice but to be ready,” said Johnson.

I just don't feel AJ deserves it yet.  How about AJ vs. Kampmann and BJ vs. Condit?

Kalibo is right, Condit is more deserving if this fight is supposed to be a #1 contender fight.  He's on a 3-fight win streak over top guys.

But sometimes deserve's got nothin' to do with it...

I still like Condit vs Penn better as far as equal rankings and excitement. Rumble would just wear BJ down.

I honestly wouldn't go as far as calling Rory MacDonald a top guy.

I was going to post something about questioning AJ's comments about wanting more money to fight BJ...then i thought of his costs of bringing in more training partners etc etc..but still I got to think a guy like Condit would take the fight regardless of his contract situation

BJ would kill johnson imo he would absolutley smash him.... But Condit vs BJ would be a closer and better fight and Condit is on a 3 fight win streak including a win over Hardy who is the only guy on Rumbles current win streak.

Johnson would use the same tactic, he's much bigger than Fitch, the guy is 6'2 and walks around at 230. But hey, who knows?

I think people might be overrating Johnson after his win over Hardy, he looked good in winning but he has been out for a good while and Hardy doesn't have the best wrestling out there. I was wondering myself who Penn should fight, I'd like to see him fight Kampmann or Jake Ellenberger, the Johnson fight would be good too but I think he would probably submit him rather quickly.

I agree with people overrating AJ right now.  He's a good fighter, but he needs another fight.  I don't see BJ taking a fight w/ Ellenberger or Kampmann after fighting the #2 guy.  How good would BJ vs. Shields be if that ever comes to fruition?

@Yaspaa lol, looked at the WW roster on the UFC website, he might not be, haha! Top 20, at the most.

BJ would destroy AJ if that fight would happen. BJ's balance is phenomenal and AJ would have major problems taking BJ down. He showed his wrestling when he fought Hardy but comparing AJ's wrestling to GSP's wrestling is like comparing Anderson Silva's Muay Thai to Kendall Grove's. It's good, but not at the same level.

If I were Joe Silva, I'd let "Rumble" settle his beef with "Doomsday".

"Joe Silva could call Dan Miller at 3 in morning to tell him he's fighting Godzilla in an hour and he would take that fight."

@seanbio  maybe BJ Penn could stop the takedowns, but i'm not sure either way.  johnson is no slouch in the wrestling department (state champ and junior college national champ).  frankie edgar was also able to take Penn down.
