Munoz's big chance in this fight is with the fists. If he can keep the fight standing and using his defensive wrestling he could catch Maia. I think Demian is just too smooth on the ground and will use superior positioning to secure a close decision win.

As much as I like Mark Munoz, and enjoy his fights, I think that he's a little out of his league in this fight. I'm going with Maia by submission.

Maia is the best grappler for MMA that there is in my opinion. Munoz has power to spare, and high level wrestling credentials, but his striking isn't very polished, and his wrestling has not translated well. I think Maia is an underrated wrestler with improved striking, I think he finds a submission off of an unsuccessful takedown attempt from Munoz, or maybe he gets a nice knee tap like he did on Sonnen, and if he can play top for very long this might not take that long.

People may flame me for this, but Maia's mma wrestling may be as good as Munoz's. Because jiu-jitsu is his strong suit, people don't notice how good of a wrestler he is. Not to mention his judo. He ragdolled Sonnen, and subbed him right away. I think Maia will outstrike Munoz standing up, and defend most of his takedown attempts, and even score a few of his own. I'm thinking Maia by decision right now, but he could grab a sub if he really goes for it on the ground.

i like maia in this fight too. i think grove just(nearly) about had munoz a couple of times when they fought. maia will lock in any submission he slaps on.

This fight worries me. Munoz probably has equal if not greater knockout power then Marquardt and is probably the better striker technically. I know if it goes to the ground Munoz will be in serious trouble, but it has to get there first.

People value the ONE takedown Maia landed on Sonnen and act like he's a wrestling wizard.

Maia has about as much chance of getting Munoz down as he did A. Silva.

He'll be getting lit up like a Christmas tree.

you need to watch the grove/munoz fight again. grove had two chances to lock in submissions and did not get them. maia will.

Munoz will be the quicker and more powerful fighter. I think it's a split decision, but having the edge of Team Blackhouse in his corner will gut him this victory.

I keep going back and forth on this fight, but here's some factors that come to mind. Maia is to the MW what Fabricio Werdum is to the HW division. He has the best overall grappling and BJJ @ 185, but Munoz trains with Team Blackhouse, I'm sure that Anderson Silva is giving him all the pointers on how to beat Maia while avoiding going to ground at all costs.

The big questions are, does Munoz really belong in the top 10 at 185? and Can Maia get the fight to ground?

At this point I'm picking Maia by submission in the opening round, but that might change by fight time.
