So if anyone watched the gleison tibau fight last night will know that he was robbed. I knew it, joe rogan knew it and his opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov knew it as well. This stuff is getting absolutely ridiculous because not only did they rob him, every one of the judges robbed him unanimously! I feel really sorry for gleison and i mean its things like this that make me believe there is a conspiracy theory that fights are rigged and the people are picked before the fights.

Oh geeeezzzzzzzzzz.... we'll agree to disagree.. I'm glad the judges agreed and made the right pick though.

to be fair, tibau was punching air as well. when two guys are punching and missing and neither of them can take the other one down, i think the fight usually goes to whoever controlled the area of the fight and shish khabib clearly did that.

But Khabib was trying to get the fight on the ground, Tibau controlled the area by denying him that and keeping it standing did he not?

funny how a guy can dry hump a leg for 3 rounds, and get the 30-27 UD

I was pretty shocked when Khabib was announced the winner.  He really didn't do anything, both guys landed clean shots at times but Tibau seemed to be landing more often and got him on the mat briefly.

@TraeBlack when his opponent is just standing there taking the leg humping, i think a 30-27 could work lol.

That's the most important part, Khabib was trying to get the takedown the whole fight but yet it was Tibau who had his back in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I don't know why people overlook that, 2 seconds of offense is better than 0.

Valid point, Messiah, but there's the way it SHOUD be, and then there's the way it is.

This isn't sinking in to some of the fighters. The trend is set. Learn it, know it, live it.

Judges like whoever is pushing the action. Sanchez/Kampmann, Garcia/Zombie, and too many other decisions to name where significant strikes and TD defense had absolutely no bearing on the decision. It was all about who was throwing more punches and diving for more TDs.
I totally disagree with the mentality of it, but it isn't going to change any time soon.

This isn't a fight to complain about the judges. The decision swings either way and it's not a terrible call. Neither fighter put a performance I was overly impressed with. Khabib got the nod from the judges on aggression alone.

@MMAMessiah,

Tibau had his back for like 4 seconds. Khabib just stood up and Gleison did nothing with it. Also, those were more slips/off balance from Khabib's awkward striking than they were takedowns. If you consider that a reason to win than that's pretty ridiculous. Shouldn't their be some form of praise for Khabib's defensive skills as well? Did you know that Fightmetric has Tibau as 0 for 6 on takedowns (they also have Khabib winning 29-28)?

I luckily was at a bar watching with no sound, I watched it when I got home and Rogan was talking like Khabib got destroyed by Tibau's TDD. It's not like Tibau's was putting on a counter punching clinic.

The truth is, Gleison was forced to fight Khabib's fight and did even less than Khabib did (and he might as well be a flyweight compared to Tibau). Gleison was less effective in the fight.

It doesnt take talent to just bullrush your opponent and unsuccessfully go for a takedown. I could fight Tibau now and go for a takedown every single time one failed. Does that mean I win the fight? For godsake, he went 0-13 on his takendowns, they werent even close. He should get no "advantage" for having been agressive and getting all his takedowns stuffed. Fact is, the striking was at parody and Tibau has more dominant positions, without getting stuffed 13 times.

had this been a split decision then there could be an argument but all 3 judges ruled the same way.

Effective grappling is judged by considering the amount of successful executions of a legal takedown and reversals. Examples of factors to consider are take downs from standing position to mount position, passing the guard to mount position, and bottom position fighters using an active, threatening guard.

Fighting area control is judged by determining who is dictating the pace, location and position of the bout. Examples of factors to consider are countering a grappler's attempt at takedown by remaining standing and legally striking; taking down an opponent to force a ground fight; creating threatening submission attempts, passing the guard to achieve mount, and creating striking opportunities.

Effective aggressiveness means moving forward and landing a legal strike or takedown.

Effective defense means avoiding being struck, taken down or reversed while countering with offensive attacks.
.
.
.

From what I take out of these rules Khabib did dictat the pace. In comparison Tibau did out-strike him, according to the rules out-grapple him and like @theMMAmessiah said correctly he did decide where the fight took place by defendeing EVERY takedown but landed 2 takedowns of his own, although both of them where very brief.

It was a very close fight, I don't think it was a huge robbery just the wrong decision. Long story short there has to be some changes. Just change the scoring system, change the jugdes, change the commissions, whatever but change something. It really sucks for a fighter, Tibau was on a 3 fight winning streak, all gone now. And it realy sucks as a MMA fan !!!

Tibau is boring and he should go up to his proper WW division so he can fight guys his own size.

I agree that the decision was bad.  Failing to get takedowns against the fence doesn't constitute "effective aggression" or  "octagon control" IMO.

I kind of thought Tibau won too, but neither one of them looked very impressive in that fight

@Nik Lust,
I could fight a guy who was a heavyweight and probably never take him down. However, if he didn't do **** to stop me and was on the defensive the whole time, does he deserve the win?

Neither guy was impressive and a draw wouldn't have been out of the question, but Tibau really didn't do anything except allow Khabib to push him against the cage the whole fight.
