Prediction: wrong Woodley   wrong Decision

Nate has got a year of ring rust, a first time weight cut down to 170, and the recently discontinued TRT.

Not only that, but Nate doesn't exactly have the best TDD either. I think Woodley will be athletic enough to take this fight where he wants. Nate better be game planning a finish and practicing sweeps.

We don't know how it may have affected his performance at 170, but Marquardt did make the cut successfully in his last fight.  He wasn't yanked from the Brenneman fight until after the weigh-ins.

T-Wood is good but he hasn't fought anyone even close to Nate's ability. T-Wood will most likely get a takedown. The last thing he wants to do is stand with Nate. I think once it goes to the ground Nate will be able to sink in a submission and give T-Wood his 1st loss.

Kinda surprised Woodley is the favorite. Even with the year layoff Nate is still one of the best fighters in the world.

I don't think Woodley will be able to handle Nate like Chael or Yushin, T-Wood's just not on that level.

Thats a common myth @Kalibo. Nate has very good TDD, Chael is the only person to really successfully get him down. He's got 73% TDD and in the Okami fight he just lost by getting outstruck. He actually took Okami down 3 times and was only taken down himself once.

And now he's facing another wrestler @Danno... take downs having nothing to do with TDD.  I don't think its a myth at all that Nate can be taken down.

Tyron will win this fight on the feet, threatening with takedowns. When he gets him down he will keep him there. Let's see how Marquardt does without TRT.

Woodley hasn't fought anyone that can blitzkrieg like Marquardt (other than Daley, who doesn't have the grappling to back it up.)

Woodley might get a takedown or two, but I think Marquardt will catch him at some point (or Woodley will gas...whichever comes first), and then finish him with one of his classic epic combos.

About Woodley's cardio, he's only gassed in fights where Strikeforce has only given him a few weeks notice. This is the first fight in Strikeforce where he's had a full training camp in a long time, if ever. I can tell you he works as hard as anyone, I don't see cardio being a problem.

Undefeated streaks don't last forever and if your gonna break it up with a loss it might as well be to Nate Marquardt

Looking at Marquardt's record, he has the better wins, but I don't think he's fought a wrestler as good as Woodley is. Woodley by what is politely called "griding".

Marquardt may have more wins and experience, but he's got a lot of flaws as well. He's not a great wrestler, struggles to defend his chin, has ring rust, and we have never seen him fight at 170 yet. If T-Wood can use his heavy hands and hit Marquardt that could end the fight, or he could use his usual strategy and take him down. He needs to be careful and watch out for Marquardt's ground game or else one mistake and he could go home with his first loss.

This is a tough fight to call.  Not sure who I'm picking yet.  Marquardt has the experience fighting the best in the world in the UFC.  But we haven't seen him fight at 170 yet.  Yes we've seen him cut to 170 but he was pulled from the fight.  So who knows how he'll actually fight.  As for Woodley his toughest opponent was Paul Daley and it was a huge mismatch because Daley doesn't have TDD.  Marquardt does have decent TDD but I'm not sure it will be enough to not go to the ground at all.  So the ground is where I think this fight will be won.  If Woodley takes down Marquardt and he can't get back up I think it's over for him.  Marquardt is decent off his back but I'm not sure he has enough to submit Woodley from there.  If I had to pick right now I'm leaning toward Woodley getting the biggest win of his career.

@P4P nailed it. Nate is a totally different animal than Tyron is used to and it'll be too much for him.
The 3rd time Tyron's TDs get stuffed he'll panic and think he should go to his stand-up. That will be the beginning of the end.

Marquardt is in a completely different league, I could see Ben Askren dominating Marquardt with his wrestling but Tyron Woodley? Nahhh.

I just wanna see how Nate makes this cut, he was a massive middleweight. If he could re hydrate properly and show up to the octagon at 200 pounds, holy ****.

Nate Marquardt is a monster who was once top 3 in the middleweight division, I doubt Tyron Woodley poses a challenge.

I'm really debating on picking Woodley.. just b/c of all the reasons mentioned on this page alone.  Ring rust.. 1st cut to WW, average wrestling... idk.. I just don't know!
