Glena Avila Wiki
Glena Avila & her amateur MMA career were the main subjects in the feature-length documentary entitled Glena. The film was directed by Emmy-winning director, Allan Luebke and was released at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2014.
Glena was shot by a one-man crew and tells the story of Glena Avila as she does her best to become a Professional MMA fighter and a loving single mother to her two children.
Luebke raised money for the documentary through the crowdfunding site called Kickstarter. With a budget of only $5,385, the editing was only intended to take two months to accomplish, but after Luebke decided to make it feature-length editing took three years and needed financial aid from other sources.
Glena receaved the "Audience Award for Best Documentary" at the Women + Film VOICES Film Festival and a "Special Jury Award for Inspirational Filmmaking" at the Arizona International Film Festival.
