While it was one of the most underwhelming WEC fight cards of the year on paper, WEC 43 ended up featuring what many fans agree was the best fight of the year in the form of the Interim Lightweight Championship bout between Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson. After five rounds of grueling, back-and-forth action, Henderson emerged with a close Unanimous Decision victory.
The event was originally supposed to feature a rematch between Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner and Cerrone, but Varner was unable to compete due to injuries he had sustained his in January title defense against Cerrone.
