Wiki

WEC 36 Wiki

Following the biggest win of his career over former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver, Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber was undoubtedly the biggest star the WEC had ever seen. He lost his belt in his very next fight at 145lbs, however, getting knocked out by top contender Mike Thomas Brown in a major upset in the first round of their main event clash at WEC 36. In the co-main event, Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho failed to make weight, demoting his fight with Chael Sonnen to a three-round, non-title bout, which Sonnen won via decision.

Sonnen became the first fighter to ever defeat the Brazilian champion, winning a safe, boring decision over Filho, who appeared sluggish and barely mustered any form of offense throughout the fight. It is remembered, when it is remembered at all, as one of the worst fights in recent years.
