UFC Fight Night 20 Wiki Update Wiki

UFC Fight Night 20 featured a main event pitting TUF 5 alumni Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard against one another in a bout meant to determine a candidate for a top contender’s match later in the year. Although Maynard emerged with the Split Decision victory, the fight lacked spark, and some fans believed that Diaz had done enough to earn the win. Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White concluded that Maynard, who had relied on overhand right haymakers through much of the affair, was not ready to hang with boxing technician and Lightweight Champion BJ Penn. White granted the next title shot to Frankie Edgar instead.

In other action, undefeated lightweight Evan Dunham continued his role by submitting Efrain Escudero in the third round, handing the Mexican-American fighter his first loss as a professional in what many believed at the time was an upset.
