UFC 97 Wiki Update Wiki

In one of the most ironically titled events of the year, UFC 97 featured Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva defending his title against Thales Leites after a disappointing and universally panned performance against Patrick Cote the previous fall. In the co-main event, former Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell returned to action against Mauricio Rua after a vicious knockout loss to Rashad Evans.

Although UFC 97 broke the official UFC attendance record set the previous year by UFC 83, which was also held in Montreal, it was a disappointment, with Liddell getting knocked out in his fourth loss in five fights and Silva dancing his way to a Unanimous Decision victory that had fans in attendance booing him heavily.
