In the featured event of the Summer of 2008, UFC 87 led with three of the most-anticipated fights of the year, as Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre defended his title in a Fight of the Night effort against Jon Fitch, while Brock Lesnar earned his first UFC win over Heath Herring and Kenny Florian stopped the undefeated run of Roger Huerta.
The main event fight between St-Pierre and Fitch was one of the best fights of the year, not because it was competitive, but rather because Fitch endured an incredible amount of physical damage, refusing to give in over the course of five rounds against one of the best fighters in the world.
