Wiki
UFC 77 Wiki
Although he ranked as the lowest-drawing champion on the UFC’s roster in terms of Pay Per View buys, by 2007 Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva had proven with his demolitions of Rich Franklin, Travis Lutter, and Nate Marquardt that he was the best 185-pound fighter on the planet. In the main event of UFC 77, which took place in Franklin’s back yard of Cincinnati, Ohio, Silva duplicated his first victory over the former champion by finishing his opponent—again from the clinch—in the second round.
Realizing that he could not hope to defeat “The Spider,” Franklin would soon vacate the 185-pound weight class in search of superfights at catch weights and contention in the light heavyweight division.
