UFC 7 Wiki
After winning the UFC 6 Tournament, Russian fighter Oleg Taktarov received the opportunity of a lifetime in the form of a shot at the Superfight Championship held by Ken Shamrock. Unfortunately for the UFC, the “Superfight” between Shamrock and Taktarov was seriously lacking in the super department. It became the second of the first three Superfights to end in a draw when time expired. Following the disappointing championship fight, the UFC would be prompted to add ringside judges at its next event to minimize the chances of a draw occurring.
In the UFC 7 tournament, “The King of the Streets” Marco Ruas, an underappreciated pioneer of Vale Tudo in Brazil, tore through the competition, finishing all three of his opponents to emerge as the top contender to the Superfight belt. Ruas fought the last two of his three fights with an injured hand. It was rumored to have been broken.
