Featuring the UFC’s first—and last—country vs. country theme, UFC 58 featured eight bouts pitting Americans against Canadian fighters. In the main event of the evening, UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin defended his title against David Loiseau in what was—judging by points—the most dominant decision in UFC history. In the co-featured bout of the evening, the rivalry between Georges St-Pierre and BJ Penn began when St-Pierre merged as the top contender to the welterweight title by stealing a Split Decision victory over the Hawaiian fan-favorite.


The final country-versus-country tally for the event had the United States edging out Canada by a score of five wins to three.
